Yeah, the deliberate stupidity that they constantly feel the need to inject into apocalyptic fiction gets fairly tedious sometimes. Guys like Glenn surviving that long can really only be put down to some kind of insane luck, because with how stupid he's been behaving since Merle beat the shit out him in Woodbury last season he's now genuinely too moronic to survive without others around to pull his shit out of the fire for him.

Joe and his guys are actually kind of cool. Got their shit together and have a system of sorts that makes a lot more sense than just randomly wandering the countryside. Too bad they're going to just turn out to be more raping/murdering/thieving fuckers judging by their first appearance at the house where Rick was hiding under the bed.

BBQ time in deadworld? And just where did you get the unspoiled meat from, Lt. "Crazy Mary" Yar? Fresh longpig, anyone?

Well but remember to divert around the tunnel was an extra day at least and Glenn knew he was close behind her because the sign she left at the entrance was still wet. So I get that he would take the risk of the tunnel to catch up instead of diverting and possibly running into other problems that would prevent him from intercepting her.

But the general comment about the characters being foolish and still constantly surprised by zombies I think is valid. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why in season 1 nobody managed to grab up any of the discarded military gear and vehicles strewn about Atlanta and the CDC...or why that lame-ass Hyundai Tuscon was always their vehicle of choice when they could have had their pick of just about anything.

Military gear, yes, grab as much of that as possible, and they did put together a fair arsenal over time at the prison. Military vehicles though? Nah. They're useless metal when they run out of fuel. Pretty much all the gas stations would have been drained dry in the first couple of weeks of the epidemic by fleeing civilians. Even if military bases still had fuel, odds are that all of them got overwhelmed over time and are crawling with undead. Unfortunate thing about North American military bases. They're really just surrounded with wire fences and those concrete barriers designed to keep someone from ploughing thru with a car bomb. They don't have those nice high stone & mortar walls the way European/British castles do, which is why I'd like to see an offshoot called The Walking Dead: Europe. Less available firearms than Americans have, but they have those nice castles, many of which have those nifty museum sections and armouries full of medieval weaponry and armour plate. Be cool to see. Not as effective as bullets in one respect but then again a person with a sword/axe/mace and a suit of head-to-foot chainmail really never has to worry about running out of ammunition either.

bullets are for the live threats. Some sharpened rebar should take care of the teenagers....errrr I mean zombies.....no..... I have to be honest. I meant teenagers

Yeah, but the guy in the chainmail probably can't move much faster than a walker either, so you're chained to your homebase and can't scavenge very far for supplies when yours run out. And bases aren't that hard to fortify - just dig a quick anti-vehicle ditch in front of your chain-link and it's going to be tough for zombies to crack (assuming they're slow-moving and dimwitted like in Walking Dead).

Having said that, my next book features troops in chain mail fighting zombies, so don't think you're all that original!

rebar and concrete along with some earth moving equipment...you`re set as long as you have a couple weeks

I get the gas guzzling point but Im sure a HMMVW or 2 with a mounted machine gun or mini-gun would've come in handy at some point.

Totally agree with the last few posts. These are some of the dumbest people to ever survive the zombie apocalypse.

herbie @ Mon Mar 24, 2014 7:37 pm

Say again, Canada would make for a boring Zombie show. They'd be bad sculptures for 7 months a year, People would just hide out until mid-November then smack 'em on the head with a hammer. Save the bullets for a moose....

Michonne is the smartest one of the group using Walkers to camouflage her scent.

Nah. Saw this elsewhere. It was one of the suicide corpses in the kid's playroom in the same house with the defaced painting.

Looking forward to Lt. Yar being shown to be as batshit crazy though as the Governor turned out to be.

Nothing says 'I care' as much as an Ahlspeiss or Halberd. 8)

Blades may look cool but have a tendency to become stuck or wedged in certain bone and gooey material. Blunt force trauma is the best way to go, maces, clubs and the good old ball peen hammer on a slightly extended handle are the best way to go. One solid smack and nothing to get stuck in.

But a pole weapon gives you range.

Just my experience from video games ( ;) WarZ/Infestation ruined me ) a hammer/wrench/crowbar means you have to get in close where you can be grabbed and cut/infected. A Baseball bat/spiked bat/Katana gives you a bit more range - but a long pole with a Tac Knife attached gives you plenty of range, especially when on top of an object like a car or stairs.

And from the show, they don't have to open the skull to get a kill. The soft brain tissue is the target, and behind the ear, through the eye or through the soft palette will do. And after a year or so, how firm can their skulls be? [bash] PDT_Armataz_01_32

War Scythe FTW!
