Cosmos was awesome, so was Aurthur C Clarkes mystery worls
Whats funny is I used to watch Alan Ladd (sp) at large on BBC while my mom was cocking dinner and dad was not home yet, brother was generaly at work. My dad got home about the same time each night right after Alan went off and 30 min later Cosmos would come on so we would sit down have dinner and then watch Cosmos.
Alan Ladd was a british comedian who was kind of riske for the times. Cosmos kind of became a mainstay for or family viewing after dinner. All becuase I was sneaking peaks at womans clevage on a british comedy show.
I think you mean "Dave Allen at Large", an Irish comedian with the tip of his first finger on his right hand, missing, smoked like a chimney, I thought he was funnier than Hell!! ........and about mom cocking dinner, is that cooking or is she really cocking it up....
Star Trek TNG, Star Trek TOS, Star Wars (I watched it so often it could be called TV show for me). I enjoyed Star Trek's utopian vision as a child.
As an adult the Federation IMO is an abhorrent organization of unelected self perpetuating inter galactic bureaucrats who use the military might of Starfleet to impose their one dimensional views on the rest of the galaxy.
When I was 14 or so PBS carried a LOT of British stuff like Two Ronnies, Benny Hill, Fawlty Towers and the one about the Ministers (the old one kept saying "Fek" all the time...)
the Ministers (the old one kept saying "Fek" all the time...)
Sounds like Father Ted, but that was made in the 90s. Father Ted embezzled charity funds and went to Vegas, Father Jack was a womanizing alcoholic and Father Dougal was an atheist and an idiot.
Topo Gigo spinning plates on his nose, Elvis from the head up, the Stones spending 'time' together... all the worst of US teevee. which begot The Smothers Brothers!
Note : I'm not that old to have watched these when they were first aired but later reruns. Well not reallt reruns as there was only one English channel then at that time and it was pretty young at that and was on from 4.00pm to 12.00pm, a time when TV actually came on and finished unlike today. Programming usually consisted of mixed old and new ( for that time ) American and British shows.
And god forbid if there was a major horse race in Englan or wimbledon season. Then all programming was interuppted ( Usually ment my cartoons and sitcoms ) to broadcast those live. Thus sowing the seeds of enternal hate for horse racing and tennis !
I remember being pissed when they interrupted BSG to announce that Israel and Egypt had signed a peace treaty.
