They're supposed to be a threatened species, but I see them every day pretty well. This was a mother with a young one. She shooed it into the bush and then sat there and stared at me.

I have to apologize for the picture quality. i got up too early to begin a day trip and someone didn't pack my camera. These were all taken with my phone. We drove across the southern end of the island to Taitung county on the Pacific Coast. The beach is Taiuli or Tamli(sp?). It's beautiful but has extremely dangerous undertows. If you aren't a powerful swimmer going beyond your knees is dangerous....and then there are the sharks. Schools of hammerheads. Anyways I am cooked scarlet from the clear blue skies and UV levels of 10 - 12.

One suggestion, get a circular polarizer for your lens(es). It will really enhance the skies.
