$1:
"At the moment there are problems in the Canadian economy, but we aren't in a recession," Harper told reporters during an election campaign stop in Kitchener, Ont.,

After squandering a 13 billion dollar surplus we are reduced to a deficit government - which of course is the Tory plan to create hardship, speculation and promote instability.

Because as we know from BIG C riderain people tend to lean right during hard times.

What better way to ensure being re-elected then to manufacture "hard times" if you are on the right.

A vote for the right = more hard times for the average citizen.

The left depends on a strong economy and a steady stream of tax dollars to pay for social programs and whatnot.

The right creates trouble to get re-elected.

The left tries to create harmony to get re-elected.

I prefer harmony, even though 9-11's, wars and economic chaos make interesting news...I would still prefer my tax dollars go to health care and roads then wars and corporate bailouts.

Are you suggesting Harper is to blame for the slow down in the US housing market and the US economy in general?

Define squandering. I don't see how tax cuts and increased spending where it's needed is squandering. Also the deficit was for a two month period this year, which rebounded to a surplus again. If we end up with a deficit for the year then you can be worried.

Harper has been avoiding the issue of the economy and the deficit his government has put us in.. now he is shelling out all kinds of stuff to get elected that he will either have to renege on or pull the old "we thought there was more money, sorry there isn't put we will up your taxes to help.. He is so busy trying to "con" people into voting for him he is side stepping the real issues.. Hope people can see through this.

Our country is currently in a budget surplus.

Wally_Sconce @ Tue Sep 16, 2008 5:06 pm

Just what the hell does the liberals know about 'deficit'? They stole from the EI fund and declared their budget balanced.

Thats like me dipping into my savings account, then declaring that my cashflow for the month was balanced. it doesn't work that way!

R=UP

Same goes for the cuts they made to the provinces. I can claim I have a surplus too if I don't bother paying my bills.

Anyone who claims that the Conservatives have some how engineered the economic slow down and blame them for the sub-prime mortgage mess deserves this years tinfoiler award hands down.

Oh I just found this, I thought it was pretty funny:

Aging_Redneck Aging_Redneck:

"Analysts note that the TSE dropped more than NY and Asian markets today."

The cited reason: "speculation that the Liberals might get a minority government."

IMO, Canada is going to drop into the same recession as the USA if the Liberals keep screwing with the momentum that Harper has been able to create.

Ya, it had nothing to do with the global economic crisis...

So let me get this straight, if a flailing economy is in reference to the Liberals then it is related to the "global economic crisis", but if a flailing economy is in reference to the Conservatives then its some sort of intentional tinfoil "conspiracy" that the Conservatives have cooked up to gain more votes.

Weird isn't it?

Tories would offer tax credit to 1st-time homebuyers. Credit would result in a maximum rebate of $750 per family

Interesting.

The CONS model themselves after the American neo-cons who authored America's current economic mess. As such, Harper and his boys are fair game for criticism of their management of the economy.

Reverend Blair @ Tue Sep 16, 2008 7:06 pm

Wow, $750? What's that supposed to cover?

This is just another of those stupid little things Harper comes up with. What's the phrase? "Small town cheap."

Closing costs, did you read the article?

Considering Dion will COST me $750 and Layton will COST me $7,500, I will take the $750 and say thank you Harper.

That's like saying Layton models the NDP on Soviet style economics and as such is fait game for criticism of their management of the economy.

Both are ridiculous.

Give me one example of the CPC modeling themselves like the Republicans.
