I guess I should respond to my own thread...
I started rock climbing this fall, and joined my university's team (not really a team, just have lessons)... it's technically 'bouldering', though, which focuses on 'problem' solving (an engineer's favourite activity) and doesn't require harnesses or ropes. I do that twice a week, and I also run back and forth between the gym.
When it gets colder it'll be pick-up hockey and some skiing. When it's warmer hiking and cycling... None of this gym stuff.
This time of year I'm a total potato, though.
As it is hockey season now I tend to eat healthier, only 12-15 beer a day, 3 packs of smokes vice 5, KFC and McDonalds 4-5 times a week instead of the usual 7. Anything I can do to keep lean and mean!!!
Even though I run the comany these days, I still help out in the mill a couple times a week, which involves filling and handling 50 & 100 pound bags. Last week a load came in and I ended up lifting and piling 900 50 lb bags in 2 1/2 hours..... Infact I have 2 load of the same size I have to get repiled over the next 5 days and another on the way next Wed... (Oh, may acking back....)
Also, when I get my butt motivated, we have a home gym that I workout at 3 or 4 times a week, and do a 45min walk every morning with the wife.... no bad for a 50 year old..... Plus I also eat heathy ( a large salad for supper most nights, and very little junk food...) I also take one of the very best dietary supplements on the market, every day.
Cheers all...
I jog... The occasional yoga. I'll go the the Gym to do weights a month before my annual PT Test. I used to Ski a lot... but with two kids I just don't have the time anymore.
Currently I'm working my way through 4 cord of Oak with the axe, then restacking the wood and carrying in what I need each day.
I play hockey 5-6 times a week in the winter and 4-5 times a week in the summer. Cycling in the summer is usually added except this years because golfing took up most of my spare time......which I do without using a cart.
Goo to see that a lot of people do something... I think the key to success is making the physical activity part of your life, not something that has to be done when you get the chance... Things like walking your dog, walking to/from work (running home from work works best, as you don't have to worry about showering at the office), activities that are fun, and that involve other people (harder to say "maybe not this week" when you're letting your team down!)
Main thing is to make sure you're having fun doing it!
When I'm able to get a half-full hand of my belly fat, I stop eating for some days and I loose it all
