Injured OHA linesman Kevin Brown appeared at the Stratford game on the weekend. He was in a wheelchair and wearing a helmet, but seemed to enjoy the welcome he received. He is in residence at a rehab facility in London. It's still uncertain what his long-term prognosis is but it's pretty clear he that he has a long haul ahead of him.
Better news than the initial reports after the injury, but he's still got a long way to go.

BROWN IMPROVING
OHA president Brent Ladds visited injured linesman Kevin Brown at London's Victoria Hospital last Friday and released some good news.
"I can report with a great deal of optimism that Kevin is on the mend and on the road to recovery," Ladds stated in a press release dated Saturday. "He is not out of the woods as of yet, and will soon begin therapy at Parkwood Hospital (London) to assist with restoring feeling and mobility to the left side of his body.
"Within the seven days of having been revived from the induced coma he was in, he has begun talking and, more recently, taking light food. The last (five) days have been extremely gratifying for his family, seeing the degree to which he has progressed physically."
Ladds went on to say that Brown, vice-president of the Stratford Referees Association, will remain in the trauma unit at Victoria Hospital for the short term. He added that Brown's parents, Murray and Linda, and sisters Laurie and Janice, are thankful for all the well wishes and gifts of kindness that they and Kevin have received throughout his ordeal.

They showed him dropping the puck at that game on Hockey Day in Canada last weekend. Hard to believe and injury like that would land you in a wheelchair.

The Storm were short-handed 12 times, and gave up four power-play goals, in a 4-2 loss to the Oil Barons in Fort McMurray.
Travis Dunstall and Zahn Raubenheimer scored for Grande Prairie. With the victory, the Oil Barons move within four points of the Storm for second place in the North Division.
“When the first goal is off-side and you’re short-handed 12 times … it’s a tough night,” said head coach Mike Vandekamp. “Video shows the first goal was off-side by two-and-a-half feet.”
At the same time, Vandekamp admits his team didn’t play well enough to win.
“We didn’t get pucks deep like we wanted to. I guess if you have the puck, you don’t usually take the penalty. We didn’t execute well enough. And our power play let us down. It wasn’t effective early, and then the chances ended.”

The Storm were flawless on the penalty kill, going 10-for-10 shorthanded, as they blanked the Oil Barons 3-0 in Fort McMurray.
Goaltender Chad Carder made 29 saves for his second shutout of the season. Travis Dunstall, Dan Correale and Zahn Raubenheimer provided the offence for Grande Prairie.
The Storm now pull six points ahead of the Oil Barons for second place in the North Division.
“It was definitely one of the better games we’ve played this year,” said head coach Mike Vandekamp. “We were strong as a team from top to bottom, in every aspect of the game.
“We were a lot more focused and we maintained our heads much better. We took the approach that whatever was dealt our way, we were going to get the job done.”
A physical start to the game, as Darren Kramer dropped the gloves with Fort McMurray’s Shay Laurent just 16 seconds into regulation. Kramer definitely got the edge in the battle and both served five for fighting.
Final shots on goal were 46-29 in favour of GP.
“Obviously our penalty kill was huge," said Vandekamp. "I thought we were strong five-on-five too. The guys did a great job at even strength.
“It’s a long bus trip home and it’s always nice to be taking it on a winning note.”
The Storm will now prepare for a matchup with the Lloydminster Bobcats at the Canada Games Arena on Wednesday, followed by a date with the Spruce Grove Saints on Friday.

After the starting goalie for the Storm, Chad Carder, got a four game suspension this weekend for taking the lumber to a Ft. Mac player, the starting job went to rookie goalie Jared Andersen tonight. Although you could tell he was a nervous young man in that first 20 minutes, he played very well gaining more confidence as the game wore on. He made 29 stops tonight, several of them were of the amazing variety. The score was 0-0 after 20 minutes as the Storm played a very tentative, defencive game in front of their rookie net minder, but as the game progressed and they gain more confidence in him, they opened it up. Marcus Watson knotted two goals as the Storm blanked the Bobcats right up until 1:05 left in the game when they ruined Andersen's shutout bid. Final score......

The AJHL’s top two teams do battle tonight at the Canada Games Arena, as the Storm host Spruce Grove.
It’s the sixth and final meeting of the regular season between Grande Prairie (37-15-1-2) and the number-one ranked Saints (47-4-1-3). In their previous five matchups, the Storm have won one and lost four. Three of the games were decided by one goal.
Jared Andersen will start in net again for the Storm, as Chad Carder serves the second of a four-game suspension.
Andersen made 28 saves in Grande Prairie’s 4-1 win over Lloydminster on Wednesday.
“Now we have a little bit of momentum on our side,” said head coach Mike Vandekamp. “We’ve played well defensively the past couple of games, so hopefully we can build some confidence from that.
“It’s going to be a good matchup and we’re looking forward to it.”
Puck drop is 7:30 pm. Tickets are available at the Crystal Centre Box Office.
Meanwhile, Storm forward Zahn Raubenheimer remains four goals back of the all-time franchise record (120), with five games remaining. Raubenheimer currently leads the league with 44 goals and 55 assists in 55 games.
He is three goals back of the franchise’s single-season goal record.

Rosie and I are sure pulling for Zahn to get the single-season and franchise scoring records. He works very hard every game, a great team player and leader. We're sure going to miss him next year, but until then we have the pleasure of watching this very talented player finish out his junior career.

Tonight in Grande Prairie, the two best teams in the AJHL, the number one and number five ranked Junior A teams in the country faced off. The Grande Prairie Storm and the Spruce Grove Saints. The first period was a very close period with both teams trading chances back and forth. The score was 1-0 for the Saints after 20 minutes. Then the period from hell happened, if you're a Storm fan that is. The Saints exploded for 4 unanswered goals in the second period as bad turnovers and stupid penalties cost the Storm big. The Storm managed to score one goal with 55 seconds left in the second. The Storm decided to wake up in the third period and give their rookie goalie a little help. The third was the type of period we expected from these two teams. Hard fought, great scoring chances at both ends and a numbers of battles involving several rather fine pugilists from both teams. A number of fighting majors and game misconducts handed out as there was no quit on either side no matter the score. Neither team managed to put the puck in the net in the final frame, so apart from a horrible second period for the Storm, it was a pretty good game.

Grande Prairie clinches second spot in the North Division after tonight's game against the Drayton Valley Thunder.
Grande Prairie out shot Drayton Valley by a 40-17 margin tonight. As usual, the Storm keep their opposition off the score board until the last two minutes of the game, spoiling Chad Carder's shut-out bid

The same two teams face off again at the Crystal Center in Grande Prairie tomorrow night in the last regular season game for both teams. With another win, the Storm will lock second overall in the AJHL.

Zahn Raubenheimer with his 2 goal, 2 assist effort tonight set a franchise record for points in a single season, with 107, and tied a franchise single season goal scoring record with 47!!!!!!!!!
WAYTAGO ZAHN!!!!!!!
In the final game of the regular season, the Storm and Drayton Valley Thunder faced off. The Storm came out and played an awesome game making Rosie and I stand and cheer many times during the game. After Zahn broke the single season points record, he received a resounding standing ovation from the near capacity crowd. We could hear people all around us pulling for Zahn all night, everyone was thrilled when he scored his final goal of the night.
