NBC coverage sucks anyways. It's so pro-american (which I guess is understandable but be fair!).

Is Canada really playing their fourth string?

I guess you could say that the Canadian Women are Kicking Ass! ha ha...

Now watch out... the American Women don't need a high score - just enough to win. They might be letting Canada underestimate them.... hmmm..

The US and Canada play each other so often, they know each other pretty well. There won't be any big surprises on either side.

How can you say that, we are skunking our opponents twice as good as the US! :D

Canada had an easier draw.... the real competition now begins, in a couple of days, with Sweden and Finland.

For Canada, any draw would be an easy draw, that's why the US and Canada never seem meet each other till the gold medal game. It will be a good game as always between Canada and the US.

Help please with some basic stuff...

- What is the essence of the home team advantage when playing at the Olympics?

- Why to the commentators keep mentioning the Power Play?

Pissed @ Mon Feb 13, 2006 9:35 am

I always comes down to Canada and the USA. Women just don't really play a lot of hockey in these other countries.

Home ice advantage allows the home team "last change"; meaning they can match up lines as they see fit.

I would guess the commentators would mention the power play because one of the teams would have been on one..... not sure if you're being sarcastic here or honestly don't know what a power play is.

Well, home ice determines who gets the last line change (so you can match lines) and for face-offs (unless the rules are different from men's hockey).

As for the PP, it does make a difference for some of the mid-range teams like Finland and Sweden.

The home team in the olympics get the final player change, this gives the home team an advantage in matching lines. Power play is when the other team gets a penalty and you have an advantage in player numbers

Thanks for the info... Hey! I am an American ... don't know hockey... just like to watch the competition. Last American game with Germans, they kept talking about the American power play.

Ok.. I researched it... "For most penalties, the offending player is sent to the penalty box and his team has to play without him and with one less man for a short amount of time, giving the other team what is popularly termed a power play."

So, the Germans must have been putting up more penalties, giving the Americans power plays.....

Am looking forward to Tuesday's games.

Canada v.s. Sweden 7 to 1 at half time....

The game is getting a little more furious and the refs need to allow more contact.

Most of the Canadian gals play on American college teams... that's why they are so good, right? he he.....

Edit: Final - Canada 8, Sweden 1
