the leafs are effectively out of the playoffs at this point. to try and make them now is stupid because you will not change anything. they will just go year after year, coming close to missing the playoffs or being out in the first ccouple rounds. They need to gut the team and start fresh.

but think what you can get in return for him plus a number of other players on the team. and if they suck for a few years then so be it. its about starting over fresh, not attempting for middle of the pack year after year and getting nowhere.

agreed but thats part of the cost of rebuilding until you find a new younger player to build your team around.

there are a few teams with room under their caps that would like sundin. i woul say the top two would be anaheim or detroit. they are also both very deep cup contenders that would have plenty to offer for sundin and would be happy to have him. others possibilities would be carolina, new jersey and any number of teams that are playoff contenders and lookng for that impact player to put them over the top.

Seeing a Leafs icon like Sundin end his career in Anaheim or Carolina is just unbearable..

honestly, it would hurt me inside as well to see him in another jersey. however, if they just let him walk away at the end of this season when his contract is done and get nothing that would be worse. i think that it is very possible to trade him now and get a bunch for him and then bring him back in the summer. this way we have gained picks and players for him plus he gets to finish his career here.

getting more goals, assists and points than anyone on the team every year and being a leader in the dressing room is doing nothing? in that case i think the leafs should do whatever it takes to get the kind of player you think does something cuz they would be amazing. they would make gretzky look like wade belak.
