It depends totally on the job and maybe on the lobbying you did before you came to Canada. We are here since 6 weeks, and hubby ALREADY has the job he wants. But he has no desk job, so that might be a difference too. I haven't even looked yet ;-)

We were here on holidays last year, showed our faces around, walked in in shops, told people who we were and what we were doing. That obviously paid off now.

We chose not to live in a big city, but in a small town and I think that makes a difference too.

What might help too, is to not set your goals unrealistically high. When you move to another country, any country, you will have to start over again, at the bottom. Work your way up. You need to proof yourself again...

I was a cop in the UK brenda and I tried to get in the cops here, but I was faced with total discrimination due to a government policy.

The NDP are no longer in power, I got the job I wanted, when they left. I think that's a good reason to vote Tory.

14 months? Screw that, I am still possibly considering moving to Canada but the info from this forum (which is how I found it in the fist place) so far has not been too encouraging. Anyone know where there are any big rail projects happening in Canada soon?

Things have changed mate but it still isn't easy. You have to keep trying and not give up. Once you get a decent job life is good over here.

Crack on and go for it.

Yep, that is not gonna work... I know a Dutch cop here in BC who had the same problem. He ended up as a security guard at a winery :? I imagine that was not what he wanted either, he now started his own photography business...

For government jobs, you have to be female, non-white, disabled and Native. Not or or, but and and.

Glad to hear you got the job you wanted!

Yes, thanks for the encouragement. I think a lot of people here are still not scared off by the stories, there is too much to gain.

Have you already figured out about the processingtimes at the London Embassy? I think that is a harder wait then waiting for the right job to come along in Canada...

And... A big step like emigrating might be a good time to change what you're doing anyway...

I have looked at the waiting times Brenda, they are scary (4 yr minimum) but I may try another route such as Provincial Nominee Program.

Change in career, sounds good to me but then again my skills could be needed over there.

The waitingtimes are just ridiculous, really. All due to a shortage of personel

PNP sounds great! All you need is an employer! ;-)

If there is anything that I can help you with, let me know!

I beg of you if you do not like the way we handle our immigration policies - DO NOT COME HERE!
Lets just close the immigration window for a few years and see what happens. :P

You may just get your wish, I'm better off going down under, 6 months and I'm eating Kangeroo steaks

And it really IS 6 month, that won't change into 3 years while you are processed

Did I ever tell you I have an uncle in Gold Coast, and a niece in Brisbane?

Just wondering, do you have any idea what happens once people issued their paperwork and paid? ;-)

Yeah, I hear ya there.

Jan/01st I'm off to Texas. All my beer buddies calling me up to tell my how nice the weather is 75F and of course asking if I'm freezing yet.

I miss the Mexican food & Jack in the Box.
