why all those people didn't take a trouble to make a market research prior to migrating into Canada? it is naive indeed to blindly believe that once you pass the "point system", you will automatically find a high payed good job in your field...
i'm not saying there is nothing wrong with the system, but in the end of the day everybody stands for themselves in this world. I wouldn't go anywhere without prior arrangements... but maybe it's just me :?

aawwww, babies didn't find the roads paived with gold.....geee too bad eh.

here's what you did find:

freedom from tyranous rule, safe environment (compariably) to raise family, social assistance programs, freedom from prossecution for beliefs, freedom to practice their religion (even though it is not the majority religion of this country), free schools (with the option of denominational schools catering to their religion), the ability to walk down the street and not get arbitrarily imprisioned, oh....and we don't kill our female babies....um should i keep going or do you get the point......

granted our system isn't perfect, but i would think that safety of the person far outweights the TEMPORARY inconvenience of not starting in the career the immigrant is trained for.

final point as i continue to watch the video...why don't these people get it?! they are goining into a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SYSTEM!! granted there is universal training, say engineering for example, there isn't too much of a learning curve. but say the medical system, i have absolutely no problem having immigrants go back to school to learn OUR system, they may be close, but they are not exact, and that little difference may mean the difference between the life and death of a patient.

.....there's always the old saying.....don't like it....go back.

Actually a good many are going back and doing well. On the other hand we are stuck with the dummies who are born here.

When I hear about these "highly" qualified professional individuals, I hesitate for a bit.

We have immigrants show up here with drivers licences and they are instantly issued Canadian licences.

Some of these folk from Eastern Europe and Asia, produce foreign licences and are promptly with little or no examination issued licences to drive big rigs. Why is that frequently these individuals are unable to drive a passenger car with a standard transmission. A Hungarian tried to explain that in Hungary all trucks are automatics......and yet a simple employer driving test indicated he had no clue as to hook-ups and could not negotiate a corner without having the trailor hit something.

My point is all too frequently, people show up here with bogus certificates and licences which are difficult and possibly impossible to verify.

Wow. This is no news to me, how come is was to them?

I agree the immigrationsystem has its problems, but sometimes people are very naieve :?

if they're from asia, they need to take a road test. no joke intended.

Every truckdriver who wants to be a professional again has to take another road test.

It's different for cars though. In NB, you can just trade your license, in AB you have to take a knowledge test and give them your foreign license, which you will never get back, in BC, you will get it back after you passed the road test, but if you are Japanese, Belgian, HongKongees or from a few other countries, you can just trade your foreign license.

Too bad i have to do everything again :?

(which I would have done already, if they would accept my record of landing as good enough, but Service BC wants to wait for my PR card, which can take a while... So I have only 5 weeks left now :?)

YetiWorld @ Fri Nov 23, 2007 8:33 am

It's plain and simple: if you want to immigrate, do your homework.

Read unil you can't see straight, go online or to a library and find anything and everything that applies to your situation.
Educate yourself on what goes on in the country you want to go to.

God knows that there's enough time to prepare everything that connects to the immigration once you've submitted your file......

The jokes you hear about Chinese drivers are not jokes, they're casual observations. They should be restricted to bicycles.

HERE TOO!!!!

Darwin would make a bundle betting on that one!

damngrumpy @ Fri Nov 23, 2007 10:37 pm

My neighbours here on the farm are Chinese and they came here havining done their homework and are doing well. They also enrolled in english classes and have done very well there too.
But it should be noted this country has always been not that kind to some people depending on where they are from.
All too often, we brought people here for cheap labour and we took in refugees without the skills required to survive in our society. Just because we provide all these services doesn't mean some people have the ability to access the system
