Canada, love it, hate it, or leave it.
To quote John Howard(retired PM of Australia)
"Immigrants, not Australians (or Canadians),must adapt!"
If you want to read the reast of his speech, feel free to download it.
Most Canadian born Citizen's are skilled, and have troubles finding jobs once there laid off, or quit, or new to it but because new immagrants can't find one either that's a sign of problems .
This is the whole racism sensativity thing all over again, but regarding immagration.
Walking down the street, a white guy just happens to look at a black guy and the racism cards get pulled out. Seriously, people's sensativity need's to be toned down a bit.
If you are immagrating to a country, obviously job's aren't going to be open. Take Mexican immgrants for example. Average Mexican obtains around 8 years of school. They immgrate to other countries, and except a high paying job? People in the U.S. and Canada go to College, and University and have over 12 years or more of school and can't even find that high paying job they want so bad.
I admit however that the system isn't perfect, but every person has there struggles with it every now and then, Immagrant or non Immagrant.
Down under, they are desperate for people to head down there, I get bombarded with job opportunities every week. Is the job market in Canada healthy at the moment?
I looked up the Australian labour force statistics. Unemployment is low in the capital cities but the labour force level is still significantly behind the best cities in N. America. This is people eschewing the labour force.
Typically it's the construction industry that has the labour shortages. That and low paid sectors. It's not too interesting to have job demand in low page jobs. You can do with out much of what goes on at low wages.
I understand that minimum wage in Australia is $11 so their worst jobs are quiet a bit better than Canada's worst jobs.
The cost of living is higher in Oz, so I guess that $ 11 basicly should come down to the same...
The work force level is called the adult participation in the labour force.
In Calgary and Kitchener it's better than 74% currently.
The work force level is the traditional second measure of unemployment.
The Australian participation numbers for May 2007 are:
Sydney-------- 65.1%
Melbourne------65.5%
Brisbane-------68.5%
Adelaide-------61.8%
Perth----------67.7%
Hobart---------61.4%
