Wouldn't you know it, but the guy that lives next door to my dad in a little tiny town called Marlbank, is the only pusher for miles and a rat to boot so the cops won't touch him no matter how crazy he gets. Life is strange.
He's a rat, and a pusher? Like a double agent? Who's he ratting on and why don't they rat on him?
Having seen what I have in living in both wealthy and underpriveledged Toronto neighbourhoods, I know that some people have less "outs" than others. However, even as a child, with as much reason as anyone to lash out against society or try for an easy buck, I always held myself accountable for my actions. I strongly believe that certain social safety nets could improve the gang violence in Toronto, but I also believe that once people cross the line, they have to pay for what they have done. For me, I can justify putting energy into prevention. I do not feel the same way about rehabilitation, I don't think that jails are a way of reforming people, they are there to punish.
They do rat on him. The few cops he informs to protect him. He has been charged with all sorts of stuff by other cops and it never gets to court. I've seen him slap cops around twice. When you're a good rat you're untouchable.
Really, I had no idea there were situations like that.
in every small town across Canada and every couple of blocks in the cities. I've known a few the same in Belleville and I'm sure that anyone who lives on the fringes of any counter culture in any city can tell you the same.
That's a large price to pay for information. Do you think he is given special treatment because of the information he has already provided or because he is constantly bringing in info?
I dunno if he has a quota or what, but he's turned in at least four other pushers plus God only knows who else. In exchange he gets enough protection that he is comfortable growing dope in his dooryard, driving around in any old unplated vehicle, shooting dozens of deer every year, cutting wood on crown land or anybody else's land he feels like and the list goes on and on. If anyone calls anything in the usual line is, "Yes, we suspect this, but we can't catch him at it." It's hopeless.
Yeah, that is pretty sad, the police would do better to hire undercover cops, the word must be out on this guy by now. I don't see how he is going to remain useful to them with a reputation like that, maybe when he's outlived his usefulness, they'll pull the plug on him. If they ever do, they'll probably have to build him his own jail.
Seriously tho. Dad was a cop for 38 years and there are folks who get rides like. There are also the folks the cops just get tired of busting, knowing full well the Crown will give him yet another warning in the form of communitry service, suspended sentence etc.
That way

If I have to blow, it's plaster.
