Personally, I like the idea of telling most imigrants " Listen up! Your countrymen have been killing each other for centuries and there still isn't any peace. <b> Your way doesn't work, if you want to be Canadian, you have to change.</b>"

There is no way you can compare "immigration of the ancestors" to immigration nowadays.

600 years ago, it was no immigration but invasion. Now, in the modern day society, we have rules and regulations.

Regardless of rules and regulations, people are still moving from one part of the world to another. It seems some people still consider this an invasion, even though we invited them to come here.

British "bums" as you call them built this country ahole.

Point me out the difference between these "people from uncivilized countries", and the British who came here 100 years ago.

Then please tell us who was responsible for the Industrial Revolution !!!

Why does having an industrial revolution mark the difference between "civilised" and "uncivilised"?

It seems we've done a lot of very uncivilised things with industrial production (is two world wars not enough? And let's not forget all of those nuclear weapons we've built.), and we're still doing them. It still baffles me as to how one goes about hiring the guy that designs new bombs. What kind of psychopath do you hire for that??

The arguement that Canada was build by immigrants, that we have always economically assimilated them in the past despite doubts is an irrevalence. The question is what is happening today. And the answer is there is poverty and population causes this.

In the 1950's immigrants came here and quickly went to work in plants and factories that were unionized and world class. They prospered, bought houses and eventually got retirement packages. Today we see immigrants working at donut shops. It's nothing to boast about.

There is a distinct problem with history in this post. Either history is relevant or it is not. Make up your mind.

In one instance, what our ancestors did has no relevance to the present, and in the next, the 1950's are the benchmark for the present. Which is it? Do we ignore history, or pretend we're living in the 1950's?

If we're going to pretend that we live in the 1950's, then a lot of things are going to be very hard to deal with, like the fact that hiring practises have changed drastically. You can't just walk into any shop and ask them to hire you, you have to have some sort of qualification, and it has to be one that meets Canadian standards. If you're a doctor from India trying to start an office in New Brunswick, you might have to do your education all over again, and so you work in a donut shop instead.

The problem with immigration is immigration for the sakeof numbers.. and I agree there should be stricter regulations on who we let in.. the immigration from the middle east is wrong.. there should be minimal numbers allowed... the culture and religion is too far out there for them to fit in north american culture...also the policy of alienation of family should be scrapped.. because one who is immigrating to Canada and meet the qualifications shouldnt mean that they can bring mom and dad or wifes of pre-arranged marriages.. they should scrap multiculturalism and people coming here should be given a time frame to learn the official languages and education on what it means to be Canadian...

Hi romanP.

I didn't articulate as well as I should. However you can probably make out my point.

I hate immigration.

Hi Aging Redneck:

Lol, immigrants from countries that have been a war for eons should leave it at home. In fact no one ever says this, or says it so bluntly. It's funny.

That is probably the stupidness and most ignorant comment I have read on these boards. 8 million muslims live in the North America and most for a very long time. 99.9% of them have become productive members of society. Where is your proof that Muslim religon and culture is any less incompatible with Canadian values then any other religon?

Dearborn Mich. spilling over into windsor and heading your way..Within a few generations Europeans will be the minority...

Sorry, I don't understand what that has to do with my question.
