Given the fact that we are in diffucult times , sould the CBC be run on the idea that it has to survive in the marketplace like any other operation or should taxpayers continue to fund this organization

No, it's one of the country's most important cultural institutions.

It would probably be best if it was.

Scrapping the CRTC would be good for the country too.

As much as I like the CBC I dont like the way the libs use it for their anti conservative agenda.

Rick Mercer comes to mind.
Let the liberal party pay his salary if all he can do is push the liberal agenda on publicly funded tv.

YES YES YES!!!!

It should be. We do not need stated own media. It cost us millions. Let a group take it over. No one is talking about shut it down. It can use be privatized. An one notice the show that are the most popular on CBC are British, American or hockey. Canadian's say they like Canadian programing, but we all turn to NBC, ABC or Fox.

There is no need for state owned media. Every itself respecting media business will bring the news as it is, not as someone wants it to be. That is easier when you don't have the government funding you.

I beleive on another thread someone said the cost of the CBC is almost 1 Billion a year from the public coffres. I say let them be like every other station out there and have them fight to survive and if they dont survive no big loss, I rarely if ever watch the CBC anyway.

Definitely. It's time for them to 'sink or swim'! CBC is a money losing corporation, and as should be the case with all such business, if they can't turn a profit, and are a constant drain on resources, then it is time for them to go!

I think there is a need for something like the CBC but I'd gut the hell out of it. It's become the media arm of the Libs due to decades of appointments and like-minded hirings.

Freakinoldguy @ Sun Dec 07, 2008 12:35 pm

Given my views on the iron rice bowl that is the CBC, I don't think I have to reiterate further as to my opinion about it.

Why is there a need for it?

Aside from CBC radio, CTV does the same thing as CBC for no cost to the taxpayer.

If you get cable. How was that Grey cup coverage again?

While I agree there’s a left bias some of the time, the news presented and more balanced than just about any national news service. Without the CBC, the regionalism would become worse than it is now. I like to know what’s going on in other parts of the country, and nobody else does it.

I lived in the states for awhile and other than National Radio, or PBS, most Americans hear very little about the various regions of their own country. It really shows.

Keep ‘em. It makes us smarter about the country we live in.

Even my regional paper covers more world (let alone Canadian) news than the CBC does...
