Welfare Drug Test?
Brenda @ Thu Jan 17, 2008 1:55 pm
That is not the issue. And yes, people can stay on welfare all their lifes, if they want to. Some people rather be poor and lazy, than a little more wealthy but have to get up at 7 every day and get off their asses.
Imo, welfare should be there for people who really need it, for a certain amount of time. During that time, anybody should be able to find a job, even if it is a crappy one at Walmart, or Timmies. If you haven't you might as well not have tried so hard, or maybe a welfare life-style pays you just enough to stay in your crappy trailer, working for fun and under the table money. Please, don't be naieve, people are smart, and a lot of them are lazy...
The disabled people should be in another group, and not on welfare.

MacDonaill MacDonaill:
Why should we assume that people who have to go on welfare are drug users?
I think it’s because labour is itself an addiction socially-induced. By acquiring the habit of working, people become anxious toward the perspective of having to deal with free time.

Great idea! We all stop working, and go back to the days we have to hunt for our food, and the avarage age of people will be 35 years old again! That should be fun
Damn, I should be dead!

What about a train full of containers?
Brenda @ Thu Jan 17, 2008 2:32 pm
Sure. They don't come here in my neck of the woods...
And who is gonna put them on the train anyway? And truck the goods in there to the stores? And take the goods out of there? Put it on the shelves? Make sure you can find everything you need? Bake your bread? Cut your meat? Slaughter your animal? And now I am only talking about your food, things you need everyday.

What about the illegal immigrants eager to work hiding themselves in one container?
Brenda @ Thu Jan 17, 2008 2:40 pm
I was more thinking of putting al the welfare recipients in that container, ship them with the supplies, and have them unload the stuff, after they turned out clean since they were tested just before they got on the train

What about enforcing the right to work before resurrecting slavery?

What about: you can do everything you want with your goddamn life, but don't expect taxes to pay for it?

Being obsessed by taxes is no substitute to being fair.

Adults acting like children will not get them anywhere either...
Drug-addicted persons don’t act like children too me, they act like old-age people whom never have had the chance to have a childhood.
You never know why people do drugs... Finding excuses is not gonna help them though...
We can learn a lot about the reasons for drug abuse by speaking to and studying addicted people.
Sure, but... Aren't the reasons they give not just excuses? I cannot think of one valid reason to start (I say START) doing drugs. I can think of a lot of excuses to start and to stay on drugs though...
As a reason to start: about growing up in a family that believes in the virtues of drugs?
That is a great excuse...
It's not an excuse, it's a risk factor.
