They are not going to win or change the western world, no matter how much they kick and scream. Damn little kids with the bleeding heart Liberals. Grow a pair and join the real world.
Do you call George Bush and Tony Blair bleeding heart liberals?
All leaders of the free world have come out and condemned the newspaper articles and in the same breath condemned the violence......that is what should be happening.
It is an extreme left-wing liberal view that Freedom of Expression should be unrestricted. You are the one being the liberal.
newspaper articles ?
You dumb ass, they were cartoons like Bugs Bunny.
Tricks Tricks:
So breaking down and conceiding to people who are burning down your embassies so that you will change how you live is "leadership"? No, its appeasement. Appeasement is a sign of weakness.
Of course not. I was talking about cartoons, not burning embassies. I think that the response by western governments has been the right one. They have condemned the cartoons and the violence.

The cartoons should never have been published in the first place. The editors should have known what was going to happen, "who cares if riots occur and people get hurt, we sold news papers and will sell a pile more cause of this "Issue" we created". Free speech my ass.
Well I'm not going to be held hostage by someone else's religion or beliefs. But yet I am because on one hand I want to post one of the "toons" and on the other I'm scared of something happening if I do.
Because I'm not a Muslim I dont share their beliefs, and the internet had the cartoons posted long before the papers got going on it. So what's next? A holy war on the internet?
You don't have to believe what they believe. I think that freedom of religion also means freedom from religion, but in the same vain, if you want people to respect your beliefs, you need to respect theirs. Publishing something that attacks their religion and offends their beliefs is just stupid. It's done for no other reason than to be ignorant.
So would you respect "Sharia law"?
Sorry, you have me at a loss. I'd have to read up on it before I commented. All I can say is that people need to respect each others beliefs. Going out of your way to piss on someones religion is just wrong.
You should read up on Sharia law and the do's and dont's of Islam,it will scare the shit out of you. Sorry but no respect for that here.
Just think Taliban or Hamas. The ultimate goal of Islam is to convert everyone except the jews. There's some exceptions but not many will be spared.

Why should they condemn the cartoons? It was stupid, and they probably shouldn't have printed them, but it is their right.

please stop personal attacks like this. They will only result in a flame war and it's not acceptable.

I'm sure it is a small minority of Danish people. That is why I said the Hwackers, Motorcycleboys, and BartSimpsons of Denmark....

You just condemned them too....
I'm not saying they should say they're illegal, I'm saying they should just say it was stupid of the newspapers to do, and certainly not representative of the views of the government or citizens of whatever country.....

It was stupid in the sense that it got such a reaction. Frankly the fact that it got this big of a reaction shows something. It just proves those drawings. They are just hurting themselves.

Don't get me wrong, for those who burn and kill threaten to kill deserve no respect. But why go out of your way to see if you get that reaction?
But QBC that was never the intention of the Danish newspaper when they printed these toons. All they wanted to do was find out why no one could be found to illustrate a Danish children's book to teach the Danish children about Islam. How is that for irony.
What would have caused, at most letters to the editor and canceled subscriptions in the reverse case in the west has lead to what you see on the news in Syria, Lebannon, etc etc. They insist that we have to respect their core beliefs. Fine, then I demand they respect ours, chief amoung which is the freedom of expression.
In no way can you hold the Danish paper responsible for the actions lunatics. You do not see those in the west who hold their religous beliefs to be the basis of their life running rampant in the streets over the cartoons in the Arabic newspapers that run in the same line.

I don't think the reaction comes from the drawings. The reaction to the drawings was a boycott of Danish goods......
I think this new reaction is a reaction to the fact that all the other papers re-printed the cartoons......I think the new reaction is a reaction to being slapped in the face - whether the slap is real or perceived.

So the reaction came from the news reporting the news

Slap in the face? LOL Go watch a southpark cartoon. Do you realize how much they make fun of christians and christian beliefs? Do you see christians running down the streets torching the studio? NO. Because it is humor.

In my opinion. When you call defending those cartoons "defending freedom of speech", you are not really defending anything. You are attacking freedom of speech.
Freedom of speech is one of our core values because it protects our right to express dissent, new ideas, etc.....
Those cartoons do not do those things.....Cartoons like that are in fact oppressive. They are like cartoons I'm sure existed 200 years ago that depicted africans as savages.
In my opinion you attack freedom of expression by defending those cartoons. Especially in the minds of middle-easterners....
They don't understand why freedom of expression is important to us. And for the next twenty years this incident will define for them what freedom of expression means ....it's really sad.

your really confused. Freedom of speech and expression is being able to say what we want, within the law.

That's right. But we live in a completely different culture. We believe in separation of religion and state, etc......right now Religion and State are the same to them......
If we want them to change, insulting them is not the way to do it......
The founders of North America burned a lot of women to death on stakes because they considered them to be blasphemous.......
We need to encourage them to change the way we have changed.....and insulting them is not the way you do it......Insulting them just alienates them and isolates them.....it makes it worse.
