In Congo, 1,000 die per day: Why isn't it a media story?
Scape @ Mon Jun 20, 2005 2:48 pm
Things getting done to the tune of trillions over budget would, in the real world of business, end up out of business. This is not a shell game to cover up black op's it's a shell game to cover up that the buck stops in China. This only 'works' because they are paying the bills not because it works in reality. This is corporate welfare in the disguise of militarism.
If 'getting things done' means a work order in the 70's for the raptor program at 35 million a plane for a total order of 700 planes balloons into 330 million the end result is you get is 200 planes because you can't afford anymore as the rest of the money was pissed away. Your not upset at all over this, fine. Don't cry to me when the economy tanks. The US can cook the books for only so long.
And furthermore, I think all of your threads have eventually been hijacked, Scape.
Just pointing that out.
Was this one the breaking point?

Fortunately, you are a Canadian and our book cooking will not affect you. Much.

Runs to the front of the thread and claims in it the name of John A MacDonald!
Lily you opened the gate. I have no ire toward you but to the two posters who used that as an opening they have made this yet another example of why Canada should be independent of the US. The question still is why domestic media in Canada and international media as a whole (save the MSM in the US that is completely without shame) has not picked up on this issue and what can we be expected to do now that it has gone on so long?

There is MILLIONS dying in Africa and NOTHING is even being said in the MSM. My question is WHY?
Because most of africa is an uncivilized third world shithole. It should come as no surprise that its residents, by and large, live and die like animals.
With or without foreign aid, these apes are unwilling to change their lifestyles and enter the modern world. Maybe in a few more centuries they'll come around. Until then, it's somebody else's problem - NOT MINE.
I formally apologize for questioning how America goes about spreading Democracy. T'was not the place nor the time.

1st, let me just level the playing ground here and offer my sincere and humble apologies. I am wrong for singling you out. I am pissed off by what has happened and latched on to your statement as the breaking point in the thread. As you can see from the post above by gideon this has become a hate fest thread the very thing I was fighting to avoid, to no avail.
2nd I singled you out as you were the moderate. Why, probably because it was 4 am when I did it. Forgive me?
Well, then, good. Now, to get back on to the topic at hand...

So, what your saying, is that just because their poor they don't deserve our pity? You don't think that Africa has TRIED to move up in the world? Yes, they fucking have. But Africa, if you havn't noticed, is a bit poor and war-torn right now. Is it their fault? Fuck no it isn't. The British Empire exploited it so much that by the time they were out of there, Africa had nothing left but some poor people who were too weak to be taken as Slaves. That's what modern Africa was founded on. People to weak to be used as Slaves. They need help, and they aren't getting this help. If I could, I would hijack a news broadcasting truck, get it over to Africa, and show the world just how much they need our help, but I can't. The only people who can are bloody idiots, too worried about their own hair to notice what's going on in the world around them.

You don't think that Africa has TRIED to move up in the world? Yes, they fucking have.
We meet again, young grasshopper.
How have the people of africa "tried to move up in the world"?
By abstaining from risky sex so that they don't catch a 100% PREVENTABLE fatal illness?
By refusing to support leaders who lead them to war with neighboring tribes?
By making the decision to have maybe 1-2 moderately well fed children, instead of 10-12 starving little brats?
By stealing the property and wealth of the successful, to redistribute it to the ungrateful poor?
The fact of the matter is that africa's failure is a DIRECT consequence of how the african people live their lives. Until they show a willingness to join the modern world they deserve NOTHING.

Ok, how do you propose that they start to become a modern country? Don't know for sure here, but I wouldn't think that condoms are high on the priority list for the average African. What happens if you refuse to support the leader? Because of the mob-mentality that has been bred into them, if one person breaks away, the Warlord makes an example of him and NO ONE wants that to happen to them so they stand down. Or maybe it's because the people aren't educated enough and think that the only way to live a better life is to follow XXX warlord?
Ya know, those wealthy people are the warlords. What happens if you fight againts the warlords? You get your ass made an example of. Besides, fight them with WHAT? The people have no food, no strength, no weapons... The only people who are well fed and well armed are the ones who work for the Warlord. Why would they turn on the person who has given them a slightly better life? They have no choice. It's a circle of death, unless another country intervenes it'll continue until theres nothing left in Africa.
Again, don't impune me on my age. Is a typical dodge I face daily.

Apes? Animals?
Careful there - with words like those you might be mistaken for a bigot.
If you live like an animal you deserve to be called an animal. Nationality and race are irrelevant.
I happen to know several immigrants from africa who are most decidedly NOT animals or apes. Of course, these folks generally get the hell out of there because their neighbors have pretty much trashed the entire continent.
$1:
HIV/AIDS is 100% preventable? Only by abstaining from ALL sex, not just the risky kind. There are still other ways of contracting it, however.
Considering the fact that most african countries can afford to feed a percentage of their population that lies in the single digits, perhaps abstaining from all sex wouldn't be a bad idea
Regardless, the vast majority of new hiv infections could be avoided by applying best practices. The western world figured this out 20 years ago; africa could take centuries to get the hint.

The only problem is... It isn't their own fault. Africa was extorted to the bone by British and Americans for slaves and diamons etc, it was Western civilization who fucked them over, and it should be Western civilization that helps them on their feet again.
Fine, I will learn how to spell impugn properly. Fucking English language, throwing in random Gs....

lily lily:
Parts of Africa are poor through no fault of the inhabitants. Droughts and famines devastate whole areas. Add to that political unrest - and a world that doesn't care...
Why should the world care?
If I gamble away my paycheck at the local indian casino, should somebody "care" for me and pay my mortgage? HELL NO.
If I spend all my money on big screen TVs and electronics instead of saving for a rainy day, should somebody "care" for me when I lose my job? HELL NO.
People need to take responsibility for themselves, above all else. Most of this "welfare" nonsense wouldn't even exist if people learned personal responsibility.

Extorted in what way? The slave trade, diamond trade, etc. were
business arrangements to which representatives of both sides mutually agreed.
Would africa have been better off with NO source of income from the west? I find your argument utterly unconvincing.
