I tried to find the article from the Ottawa Sun written by a young guy who left Islam... in it he writes that Islam is not a peaceful religion and the Kuran does indeed dictate the destruction of the infidels. I will see if I can find it.

   

   

References to "infidels" in Koran do not apply to Christians or Jews, whom the Koran actually refers to as fellow "people of the book".

The "Infidels" were the pagan Arab tribes that drove the first Muslims out of Mecca and with whom they fought a series of wars in the very early years.

You can play that same game and take just as many violent quotes from the Bible or the Torah to prove that Christianity and Judaism are violent religions too. It's a fool's game. Every religion and culture contains texts that justify violence against others even as they have others that promote peace and tolerance...this is a reflection of the basic human tendency to claim innocence and benign intent even while acting aggressively and maliciously toward others.

   

   

I think that sometimes we confuse "ideology" with "religion". I'd suggest that recent activities regarding terrorists or rogue states has more do with ideology than a particular faith

   

Islam is a religion of peace, just like the chatholics were during the crusades. it sucks whenever a religion involves itself heavily with politics

   

There are plenty of peaceful people who follow Islam.

Hezbollah(sp? like the drug cartels do shit like this to win the loyalty of those they insert themselves into. It's an extra ring of security, not altruism that motivates them.

Meh. No more violent than the mutant breed of Christianity currently being practiced in rich western nations. Probably less violent than communism.
