I think some people should look up who commands the armed forces. It is under the crown that is who commands you. Before any mission or any war happens the crown must approve it. When you salute an officer you are saluting the crown he represents. Everything you do and fight for is and for the crown. That is why you take an oath to the Queen and anyone in the armed forces against it should be kicked out. Maybe you should go read what it says on some of the war memorials here for many say to those who died for their King, Country, and Empire lest we forget.

As ridenrain said what is even the alternative? Sure the liberals have tried creating some multicultural society, which doesn’t seem to be working at all. The country is probably more divided than ever because of it. Canada just seems to be withering away for everything we stood for, every principal that was fought for seems to be being systemically removed and any talk of our history seems to be that of shame.

I myself like the crown and what it stands for and what it does. It is the best in all of us and encourages loyalty, duty, self-sacrifice, and service in our community and abroad. They are not partisan to any people or politics. They are here for all the people, their subjects, which they look after. They keep the politicians themselves in check from getting too greedy or corrupted. You do not pay for the Queen at all. The only thing you pay for is probably the institution itself, which benefits the people and is really quite cheap. After all the Governor General and Lieutenant Governors earn less than any Member of Parliament.

Sure we will have more popular Kings and Queens and probably less popular ones. People will have their favourites but in the end I accept it all for what it is. Much I like accept Canada for its faults and achievements and the good and the bad I take it all into account. But the crown is Canada for without it I could never see us being a country or even be created. So those who attack it you are against Canada itself and will never be real Canadians to me.

Wow, you know, the oath of service totally slipped my mind. Can you post a refresher on the national anthem while you're at it? "The Maple Leaf Forever", right?

Clogeroo Clogeroo:

Ahhhh! Ever hear the expression "Salute the uniform, not the man?" Why would that be relevant? . . .

Clogeroo Clogeroo:

*BZZZT* WRONG! What is the difference between 'The Crown' and 'The Queen' and 'Prince Charles'?

Have any quotes? In fact, have you ever visited any of the war memorials in Europe?

People can have respect for HRH, Queen Elizabeth, the Duke of Windsor and The Crown of Canada, and none whatsoever for Prince Charles and his wife Mr. Ed, the talking horse.

Bullshit; family teaches such qualities, not a bunch of stuffed-shirts across the ocean.

The royal family is a farce.

There is a difference between being in command of the armed forces, and commanding the armed forces. Tell me, when was the last time any member of the royal family gave an order in battle?
$1:
It is under the crown that is who commands you.
They let the country go to war. Do we even have to consult them anymore?
$1:
Before any mission or any war happens the crown must approve it. When you salute an officer you are saluting the crown he represents.
That is stupid. We don't even have control of our own country as long as we are connected to the royal family.
$1:
Everything you do and fight for is and for the crown.
You may swear allegience to the crown, but I would like to ask the military members. How many of you fought for the Queen? Did you fight for her, or for your country, your friends, and your brethren.
$1:
That is why you take an oath to the Queen and anyone in the armed forces against it should be kicked out.
That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
$1:

Got an exact quote? Don't forget, wen those were built, we were probably heavily entwined into the british culture. We really aren't any more.

$1:
every principal that was fought for seems to be being systemically removed and any talk of our history seems to be that of shame.
Taking control of our country instead of leaving it up to the queen is not going to change history.

$1:
I myself like the crown and what it stands for and what it does. It is the best in all of us and encourages loyalty, duty, self-sacrifice, and service in our community and abroad.
How? A bunch of people who were born somehow encourage us to loyaltly, duty, and self sacrifice? Sorry, that is like using religion as an example to be a good person. You don't need the queen to do those things.
$1:
They are not partisan to any people or politics. They are here for all the people, their subjects, which they look after.
They can't be partisan when they do nothing.
$1:
They keep the politicians themselves in check from getting too greedy or corrupted. You do not pay for the Queen at all. The only thing you pay for is probably the institution itself, which benefits the people and is really quite cheap.
How does it benefit the people?
$1:
After all the Governor General and Lieutenant Governors earn less than any Member of Parliament.
Imagine that. Someone who sits there, does nothing, and signs a few things makes less money. Hard life eh?
$1:
So those who attack it you are against Canada itself and will never be real Canadians to me.
That's retarded. How is attacking something that is British attacking Canadian. Get out of the early 1900s and step into the 2000s

what a bunch of boloney..... is it just me or does this boldened part sound really xenophobic? and what the heck does this have to do with the monarchy across the ocean? there's nothing they can do about it...i don't even know why you eve put this in here....
having a monarchy encourages loyalto to a farcical institution full of people out of touch with reality. maybe it encourages self-sacrifice for you but ordinary people here don't think about the monarchy that much or even give a damn. same goes for service etc. they aren't here for 'the people' or 'their subjects' because they have no real power and are just figureheads. i haven't lived in the UK, and i've only been there once, but i would guess that they don't have a lot of impact over there either....parliament makes all the major decisions there like here. it's archaic and unneccesary. parliament can vote to give themselves raises and it happened frequently when the liberals were in power. greed and corruption were pervasive, as you well know but you seem to have conveniently ignored that little detail. did the queen ever say anything about the gomery inquiry?
the governor general's salary may be smaller than an MP's but you forget the lavish allowances and globe trotting.....basically the GG functions as a diplomat/ambassador more than as a representative of the queen. we already have diplomats and ambassadors so why do we need to waste so much money on the GG?
like i said before, tradition for the sake of having a tradition is stupid. sure the brits had a heavy hand in founding this country but now they have little to no importance in our day to day lives. time to move on.

DENNIS: Listen -- strange women lying in ponds distributing
swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive
power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some
farcical aquatic ceremony.
ARTHUR: Be quiet!
DENNIS: Well you can't expect to wield supreme executive power
just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!
ARTHUR: Shut up!
DENNIS: I mean, if I went around sayin' I was an empereror just
because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me they'd
put me away!
ARTHUR: Shut up! Will you shut up!
DENNIS: Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the system.
ARTHUR: Shut up!
DENNIS: Oh! Come and see the violence inherent in the system!
HELP! HELP! I'm being repressed!
ARTHUR: Bloody peasant!
DENNIS: Oh, what a give away. Did you here that, did you here
that, eh? That's what I'm on about -- did you see him repressing
me, you saw it didn't you?
