Okay, I like wearing a poppy for all it symbolizes, but remember, it's just that... a symbol. Anyone can proudly don a poppy, it doesn't mean they necessarily support the vets. They could just be doing it for show.

The reverse could be true as well.

It's not just a question of wearing a poppy by any means. It's all about education as well. Personally, I would say that educational initiatives such as the one I recently saw via the Internet on CBC news where some Canadian schools are working together to learn about the Battle of Vimy Ridge are only to be applauded and that there should be more of them. There should be more school trips to the battle fields of WW1 and to places such as Auschwitz to prove how evil humankind can be (its own worst enemy at the best of times) and why exactly such crimes were fought against.

I know that all the stuff I've read, videos / DVDs I've seen and places I've been to (Normandy for example, plus I live near to an American military cemetary here in England) have made me very much aware of the sacrificies that soldiers made in WW2, so that we could continue to have freedom of speech, freedom of religion and every thing else we take for granted and never stop to think about. The same of course goes for WW1, a war that was so extremely bloody yet seems to be forgotten sometimes.
