Hamas demands Israel change it's stripes

$1:
Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar said from Gaza that Israel must change its flag. "Israel must remove the two blue stripes from its national flag", said Zahar. “The stripes on the flag are symbols of occupation. They signify Israel's borders stretching from the River Euphrates to the River Nile."

Hey Giddy-up, when exactly did the Americans provide the Nazis a crushing defeat? Stalingrad? Or over the skies of Great Britian? Just off of Midway Island perhaps? El Alamein? Sure the Americans played a huge role in WWII, nobody will be justified in taking that away from you. BUT to say that you delt a huge and crushiung defeat to germany is a little much, especially since the Russians beat the west into Berlin.

Oh, and you say that Western values + western prosperity = Civilization? Guess what, civilization was not created in the United States, not even Europe. It was created in Iraq, or more accurately Mesopotamia, or as a minority of scolars are saying, China. And while looking up what the exact definition of civilization is on Wikipedia Civilization, i found this interesting little quote

$1:
The decline of ___ was the natural and inevitable effect of immoderate greatness. Prosperity ripened the principle of decay; the cause of the destruction multiplied with the extent of conquest; and, as soon as time or accident and removed the artificial supports, the stupendous fabric yielded to the pressure of its own weight. The story of the ruin is simple and obvious: and instead of inquiring why ______ was destroyed we should rather be surprised that it has subsisted for so long

Can anyone guess who this refers to (without going to the website)? The purpose of studying history is not to merely know the past, but to help guide us away from the mistakes of our past

I agree, the US did not win the war on its own (obviously) but russia also had 10 times the amount of soliders we had, plus hitler was fighting on three fronts, andthe majorirty of troops were trying to stop the allies from further advance into france. Also, America was the first one to his eagle's nest ;) Basically if there was no Canada or Britain or US or Russia, there is a good chance we would not have won that war...

Oh, and on topic. A Palestinian civil war is a posibility, but how could it be distinguished from the current situation? Things may escalate over there, targets and enemies may shift, but i don't think that we will see any sort of radical shift from the status quo. Things may just go from bad to worse, which is unfortunately normal for that region of the world.

We have to remember the democratic process also allowed the nazis to come to power initially.

Hamas does not have 2/3 majority and Abbas is still Presedent, he must be extra vigalent and the west must Stand behind the palesinian government. Hamas must be recognized as the governing parrty but Abbas must be recognized as Presedent all decisions the government of Plaestine makes must be approved by the Presedent. It is the only way to ensure Palestine remanins democratic.

On topic: brave moves require brave leaders so let's hope that Israel's Ohlmert and Hamas' leader (isn't he holed up in Syria somewhere?) have the guts to 'seize the day', put a clamp on their own extremists and forge some sort of mutual accommodation.

Off topic: If you wish to understand WW2 better, read "Stalingrad to Berlin: The German Defeat in the East" by Earl F. Ziemke, former professor of history at the University of Georgia. This book was apparently part of the lecture texts used at the US Officers School for some time. One thing we forget about the Soviets is that up until 1943 the US, Canada & Britain was supplying the Soviets with all kinds of weapons and resources to keep the fight going, and the Royal Navy had the bulk of the duty of shipping it there. Without that, Stalin might well have 'come a cropper'.

Just two years ago, the Russians dug up a tank in the Ukraine built in Montreal at the old CP locomotive works.

We should have suppklied arms to the finns, then liberated Germany, then Poland, then the Ukrain, thne China, then marched on St. Petersberg and Moscow, while invading Siberia with everything we could.
