Secular, moderate and Christian Palestinians all fear what Hamas will do to them. Clashes with Fatah supporters are increasing in intensity and frequency. The Palestinian security forces refuse to accept oders from men, who a few short weeks ago engaged in gun battles with them. Were these elections a success? We have to remember the democratic process also allowed the nazis to come to power initially. The tribalism of the Palestinian Arabs has to be be overcome, before there can ever be a viable Palestinian state. right now it ain't happening.

I still can't believe this shit....A freakin terrorist group at the head of a country.

Where are the Americans in this? Oh yeah....there's no oil there.....

Delwin @ Sun Jan 29, 2006 8:23 am

What can the Americans do really? The palastiinian people have spoken. Remeber the old adage "be careful what you wish for."

Just a never ending circle.

IceOwl, you got a beef against democracy?

The nazis were dealt a crushing and humiliating defeat by the USA in WWII.

The palestinian people deserve nothing less.

Those who live by the suicide bomber will die by the cluster bomb.

(Fortunately for them, their so-called "civilization" is a complete shithole, which will make reconstruction pretty darn easy by comparison.)

.

Don't you mean by John Wayne?

IceOwl IceOwl:
No, I have a beef with the idiots who thought democracy in the middle east would turn the place into Disneyland.

Personal and economic freedom was crucial to the USA's rise to the #1 spot.

Free markets encourage consumption and help create a productive middle class. Members of the middle class tend to be more concerned with raising families, buying SUVs, etc. and less likely to engage in self-destructive activities like drug use, violence, killing Jews, etc.

Whether or not a democratic system produces a higher degree of freedom depends on how quickly the populace can be weaned off the barbaric traditions and uncivilized mindset that permeates the middle east.

It's funny how the neo-con brownshirts always make irrelevant World War II references. I guess they're just sore losers.

It's ironic how you misuse the term "brownshirt" to refer to somebody who is discussing how his people defeated the Nazis.

gideon @ Sun Jan 29, 2006 11:57 am

IceOwl IceOwl:
And when they have all of that and still elect Hamas, what will you say then?

The two ends are mutually exclusive. A civilized, westernized society will never freely elect a terrorist group to represent them. It's simply counterproductive.

I keep telling you it wasn't the US that defeated the nazis, it was John Wayne.
