I know it it means someone who apoligiZes on behalf of someone else....but not sure that's relevant......he still thinks the fact that someone is a Muslims means they have something to apoligize for (whether they apologize or I apologize on their behalf).......or justifies the actions of others...whatever

If after all the gun violence by black youths in Toronto I said that not all black people are murderers, would you call me a coloured folk apologist?

   

And I promise that if the Pope ever urges Catholics to destroy idol worshipers or the Archbishop of Canterbury preaches that his flock should pour that "wrath" on atheists and agnostics, then I will be among the first to denounce them.

By the same token, as soon as I see millions of enraged Christians flood the streets of Rome, Paris, Chicago, Calgary and Sydney rioting, burning buildings and calling for beheadings over exhibits like "Piss Christ" or books like the Davinci Code, then I will speak out strongly.

But as it stands, the only savages doing that are Muslims. So I guess we'll just have to confine our criticism to those who seem to think it's still the year 1182 for now.

   

What do you call a Christian who hates abortion, or stem cell research? Who are you to say who's what?

Religion, like everything else, has it's negative points, and intolerance is one of its most significant negative points.

“Islam says it's all right to demonstrate but not to resort to violence. This must stop,” said senior cleric Mohammed Usman, a member of the Ulama Council – Afghanistan's top Islamic organization. “We condemn the cartoons, but this does not justify violence. These rioters are defaming the name of Islam.”

   

Exactly. I wouldn't condemn all Christians because a few are rotten....

OK maybe I would, but doing so is wrong, I'm not perfect after all.

   

We're not talking about the extremists, Bikeboy. Bart was referring to moderates who don't apologise for the actions of others. I've never heard moderate Christians apologise for the savage abortion clinic bombers, etc, so why the double standard with Muslims?

   

I think this whole thing is stupid. I understand why the Muslim people are upset (I would be upset, too, if they posted cartoons depicting Jesus in a negative way). HOWEVER, the rules of free speech are out there and this newspaper decided to use them to their advantage. They are clearly not a Muslim-based country and according to the news reports of what Muslim extremists have been doing, the newspaper must have felt that this is how these people (the extremists) are depicting their "leader".
It's clearly not the fault of Denmark; it's that of the extremists.

Rule #1: Don't expect to get your way all of the time. Acting like a spoiled brat only gets you punished even more.

That rule I made up, but most everyone will agree to it. These extremists want everyone to worship their god, believe in what they believe in, and do as they say. Does this not sound like a bunch of spoiled brats to you?
Clearly, though, I am not saying this about all people of that faith; I have friends who are Muslim and are extremely respectful of my Christian beliefs. However, for these extremists, they are not even following their religion... they are following the devil instead.

The Israelite and Arab people have had a long history of war....It dates to before the Muslim religion existed.....In Moses' time, which was thousands of years before a religion called Islam existed, the Arabs (sons of Abraham) and the Jews fought....over land.

   

The story goes that Adam and Eve had children. The children split into different societies (which later became Judaism and Islam).

Then Judaism split into Judaism and Christianity......

Then Christianity split into Catholics and Protestants........

Then Protestants split into many denomationas......blah blah blah....

Islam, Judaim (Jews), and Christianity are basically three different perspectives, or versions of a set of historical events that took place in the middle-east......

So to answer your question, the real hatred comes from more than religion. Because it existed before Islam existed. Islam is a relatively new religion.....

They believe in Jesus and call him Mohammed - they say he is a prophetof god, Christians say he is the Son of God, and is God......Islam began sometime in the last 2000 years, after Jesus died.....I think in the middle ages, but I'm really just guess.....Definately after Jesus died though...

This is not Muslims versus Christains and Jews -- this is moderates versus extremists. Plant me firmly on the moderate side, along with my moderate Muslim, Jewish, Christian, secualr and what-have-you brotehrs and sisters.

I see no difference between Josef Muslim, on the one hand, calling for the beheading of all infidels and Joe Christian on web sites like this calling for the carpet bombing of Muslim countries.

You talk as if I have to somehow protect myself Muslims, even though I live in the middle of a community of Muslims and have never expereinced any ill-will. As if Muslims -- who, on the global scale, have very little political or military power--are somehow threatening my way of life. You seek to stoke the flames of hatred through fear. You are no different than your Al Qeada-supporting counterparts.

It is about tolerance -- those who are prepared to live in peace with others of differing viewpoints, and those who want to destroy anyone who is not like them.
