UK warns Argentina regarding the Falklands
GreenTiger GreenTiger:
I wonder what the Argies would have in store for the kelpers if they were to win?
A ticket off the islands or proper funerals, I'd imagine.
EyeBrock EyeBrock:
Well, Argentina's economy is in the toilet and the UK 'aint far behind. A war will be good for one of them, just like it was in 1982. I predict a similar outcome.
The only difference this time is that Argentina won't be able to go to the IMF and get another loan when the war drives their economy even farther down the crapper.
Lemmy Lemmy:
Canada should support the wishes of the Falkland Islanders and they want to remain under Britain. That is the only point that matters.
It is the only option that should be considered, no matter what.

Which is why I figure this time around the islanders will be forcibly evacuated and sent packing. Given 'world opinion' for what it is if the islanders are safely evacuated to the UK then the UK looks like the aggressor if thet forcibly retake the islands.
Last time around the UK action was arguably a rescue mission, too.
If I were the Argies I'd play the PR angle. Of course, they're also gringo hating Latins so a mass atrocity would not surprise me, either.
One against?
Someone needs to own up.
Bart may have a point. As the world and GB's position is that as long as the inhabitants want to remain British they will fight. If they are removed and/or sent to an Argentine Gulag or wiped out and all that is there is an Argie military force that would be the new local inhabitants.
Yes I am am an Anglophile and I wish the FALKLANDS to stay British as long as the folks who are PRESENTLY there want to stay British and yes I am not "open minded".
I know Hugo Chavez has said he will throw his enormous weight behind any Argie move to stick it to anybody speaking English down there. I don't know how much that would effect anything.

It is time the US and other American countries spoke out and supported Britain in this. If the US wants to keep friends in Europe it should be aware that friendship is a two way matter.

Most of their troops are marginally literate mestizos from the back country
have you looked at the eyhnic make up of Argentina? Almost 87% of the population is of European ancestry, with Italians being the second largest ethnic group, after the Spanish...most of whom are Castilian. Mestizos only form 8% of the population, and much like Canada's 'native' population, there is just as much or more European DNA than native. Only about 1.6% of the population claims to be full blooded Amerinds.

The majority of these European immigrants came from Italy, Spain, Germany, Wales, Poland, Croatia, Russia, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Norway and several other regions. Italian population in Argentina arrived mainly from the northern Italian regions varying between Piedmont, Veneto and Lombardy, later from Campania and Calabria;[10] Many Argentines have the gentilic of an Italian city, place, street or occupation of the immigrant as last name, many of them were not necessarily born Italians, but once they did the roles of immigration in Italy the name usually changed. Spanish immigrants were mainly Galicians and Basques.

I thought the PC terms were Spics and Guineas/Diegos.
It's all about the oil my sons. On the verge of a big payday, and the Argies want it bad. Fuck them and the Alpacas they rode in on.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
Mmm, murder and mayhem in the midst... Such a positive future for mankind...
Yea, we should just roll over at let the bullies get their way Mr C.

Maybe not, but I don't see you backing the wishes of the Falkland Islanders, who have been there legally for 200 years. They want to be there, the Islands were ceded legally through treaty to the UK as the Spanish Empire dissolved.
Argetina invaded those islands illegally in 1982 and have a claim that is invalid in international law.
The murder and mayhem is what they brought to those peaceful and remote islands and it took the blood of volunteers, friends of mine, to regain those islands.
You should look beyond the rhetoric sometimes.
