I don't consider this a good thing. We're already approaching a critical mass for population, the last thing we need is another baby boom. If you think everyone in China and India driving cars is a bad idea, consider what a third country with a billion people driving cars will do to the planet. Especially when that country already has more cars than people.
I just love natural selection.... people who don't want children get selected out... sexy folks just get sexier... And after 30,000 years of modern human evolution (just enough time to create different skin colors), we humans are pretty much sex maniacs.... except for a certain few Canadians.
Sexy or stupid? There are a lot of really stupid people having children. Paris Hilton's parents, for example. Britney Spears' parents, and Britney herself for another.

Some folks are pessimistic about the human condition... but you know what?... we have barely begun do decide what we really are and how we should live. There is an exciting future ahead... even for the Chinese.
I think that's a rather cynical definition of pessimism that you're using. Take a look at the world around you, we can just barely sustain the society we live in with our present population. If you think the price of gas is high now, just wait till the world has another billion people.

I don't consider this a good thing. We're already approaching a critical mass for population, the last thing we need is another baby boom. Where did I say anything about forcing people to stop having children?
I'm talking about people using their head before they decide popping out another baby is the best idea. A lot of people have children for very selfish reasons. In America these days, there are probably a lot of people having babies because they're ignorant about how babies happen, due to abstinence-only "education."

1/3 of Public Secondary Schools in the US teach abstinance only, which means no discussion of safe sex - considering the same mindset likely prevails at home, that's a "lot of people", as romanP suggested.

Ass.I don't know if you've been following reality for the past eight years, but abstinence-only "education" has been American federal government policy for quite a while now. This means that the only education many Americans receive about their own body is that they shouldn't have sex, without evening defining what it means to have sex.

Now... wait a minute! If women are making babies they don't want, so that they need abortions..... doesn't that mean they need some sex education... you know, where they have a high abortion rate?
I never had any sex education in school... and I did just fine. Now they got the internet.... can find it all.

Yes... but men don't have a say in abortion decisions. It is up to women to control reproduction... men are just on automatic pilot. (excuse me while I put on my combat helmet and body armor... I hear incoming...)

They don't have any say in abortion decisions, I agree with you on that... But it would be smart for any man to protect themselves, their partner for that moment, and as a possitive side effect, don't procreate
I think it is a wise decision for me to not go too deep into the "automatic pilot"-thing... You have a brain in your head, you might as well want to use that for a change 
(oh, shoot, see, I did it... I am sorry, and I am glad you are wearing your protective gear, so it didn't hurt you
