You missed my point completely.

I didn't miss your point, I just don't think your point holds water.

Why?

because this whole "I don't like the swastika shaped building" is, IMHO the adult version of grade school kiddy crap. and bringing the twin towers into the discussion is nothing less than asinine.

But do you want to know a European country that still uses the swastika? In a government organization no less?

Image

Say hello to the Air Force Academy flag of Finland, does that get your blood boiling? They also used to use the swastika as their roundel until the Allies barred them from flying it on their planes.

Who sounds outraged by this finding? Whose blood appears to be boiling over this building? Why are you pretending that people are getting hysterical over this, when even the news report is given with a hint of amusement?

You guys are creating this outrage that doesn't exist. They found it and they're changing it. Get over it, yourself.

Is that so eh? This building isn't in "bloody Europe" and "the bleeding hearts" should stop whining...

Well, you obviously missed my point of bringing the towers in.

Have a great rest of your day.

Brenda @ Thu Sep 27, 2007 7:26 am

You know Saturn, you are trying to get me angry. And in some way (and not the way you think it would) you are. You are putting words in my mouth, that I never used.

The air force flag does not get my blood boiling.

You are though, by insinuating first, I am a "bleeding heart" (yeah, right...) just because I think it is kinda stupid some moron of an architect designed a building like this 15 years after the US army helped fight a guy that used that thing as a sign of his beliefs. Now, when this is still a hot issue here, AND a lot of people here STILL have everyday problems with that period, and what happened to them and their families, combined with the fact the world is kinda small at the moment, we should not whine, because that is "kindergarten crap" (or what did you call it exactly).

I brought up the towers, because in your opinion, you don't have to respect European matters, because this is a US building. Well, I assume that according to your logic, Europe shouldn't have to care about the towers, and back your ass in the war you are fighting, right? Just because that were US towers.

All I said, was that is was stupid to build that building they way they did. Nothing more, nothing less. You made it more, despite of the fact you couldn't care less.

Get over yourself, okay? ;-)

saturn_656 @ Thu Sep 27, 2007 7:31 am

I'll get over myself when you get some common sense.

I think its a fair trade. 8) G'day ma'am.

Brenda @ Thu Sep 27, 2007 7:35 am

Then I guess you are over yourself ;-)

Yes you can find Nazi wanna-be's but the key word is wanna-be. You aren't going to find a Nazi threat, because Nazi's are over with. Unless some how, a group of rebel wanna-be nazi teenagers muster up a army of other revel wanna-be nazi's and somehow grouped together and got a major stockpile of weapons and re-created hitlers acts.
Nobody suggested that the existance of this building implies some sort of Nazi threat. Nobody is worried about that, so stop pretending they are.

This is an American Navy Barracks built 20 years after WW2 that resembles the symbol of their enemy in that war. Maybe the significance of symbols like this means nothing to you, but it seems to mean a lot more to the military, and living in a giant swastika probably isn't great for morale.

For some reason, the people who think it's not a big deal seem to be the ones making it a huge deal.

Do you even listen to yourself? That post was regarding to a post somebody else made "You can find nazi wannabes in almost every military in the West and Russia as well. If anything the Germans are extremely careful about removing those who express sympathies regarding the Third Reich, within their military."

I guess I should have quoted him? As for the big deal bit, I guess you are right on that. I am making a big deal on it but if you don't want me to, stop making new posts regarding all my posts and watch how it stops.

Now lets get back on topic, Now everybody should realize by now that Nazi Symbols are everywhere but just because it looks like one doesn't exactly mean its a Nazi Symbol. Hitler diddn't invent it, it was made before Nazi's, and before hitler as somebody said, somewhere in india. I don't see why people are even reporting this, the only thing that was worth reporting is the fact that they are spending a lot of money to rebuild it but that wasn't the title of there report was it? The report title and generally most of the report was about the shape of the building. All I am pointing out that just because it looks like something, doesn't mean anything nazi related. Its all steriotype drama.

I'll post whatever I like, thanks. Your signature says candaka.ca, not canadaka.net, by the way.

Nobody suggested anything different - I've even pointed out some of the architectural reasons the designer might have chosen it.

Making it look less like a swastika isn't hurting anyone, nor is reporting the fact in an amusing news clip.

They're making a big deal of this? I pointed this out ages ago on the Google Earth thread. It's a joke in Coronado that the SEALS are all Nazis and this building (where they bunk) is proof.

From the ground the buildings look perfectly fine. It's a waste of money to "fix" a non-problem so a bunch of ninnies who can't get over the fact that the swastika isn't a trademarked Nazi symbol, but a recurrent multicultural geometric expression can feel better.

dog77_1999 @ Thu Sep 27, 2007 6:54 pm

Yawn, what a waste of money. Are we so worried that an a building that accidently looks like a swasika is somehow invigorating the Nazi movement or spitting on those people who suffered from them?

Jeez, I am not sure how this would lower morale.

I have not heard this before...interesting...thanks Shep for sharing that, it was the something new I learned today!

The building configuration is an unfortunate thing. But, there is no point in taking it too seriously though, I really doubt it was intentionally designed to offend people. As someone else pointed out earlier in this thread, it is a functional design. Don't forget that if were not for Google none of us would even know about this and these conflicts taking place on this thread would not be happening.

It's too bad, yet again, that an interesting "news" item has turned into a personal battle on a thread. Can't we all just play nice? C'mon it'll be fun.

WBenson @ Thu Sep 27, 2007 10:58 pm

Let's all abolish sensible shapes for buildings because from certain angles they look like Nazi symbols. I find it hard to believe that anyone could be offended by the combined shapes of 4 separate buildings.

How long till toast that has a swastika on it shows up on Ebay?

It is directly hurting the taxpayers of the United States, though in a minimal amount per capita.
