Heres our camp boss dude that runs the whole show piloting the bombi for the last leg, excellent guy,he loves it here, like coming home he said this morning. its a little fuzzy and went the flash went off he freaked out because he thought something was shorting out, should have kept snapping pics. The look on his face was priceless because the heater allmost lit a box of coffee on fire about 2 hours before that. That was a ten hour jaunt on both the halftrack and bombi.Sure was nice to have a sub zero tent for the first night. sea sick city and rough portages between lakes.

Those are pretty wimpy heaters sitting by the light unit Ziggy. I would of thought they'd have the Mother of all Herman Nelsons up there. :D

We have 3 but couldnt find them under the snow,we even used avalanch probes but the drifts are 15 feet deep in places. We had to phone the last mechanic to find out where they were.So now we got the cat 350 hoe running and dragged 2 more amida lighting plants in to run the herman nelsons, should have the trucks running tommorow.i spent most of the day flying in the chopper and snowmobiling.
The delta's are starting to haul fuel in,takes them 8 hours across the ice to get here.

Morning I start 8 kliks of ice road with a d7 8O 3 miles portage over some of the most brutalist shit I have ever seen.First Im making them check the ice depth, they say 5 feet, hope thats enough. :o GPS'd the road in the chopper and I'll just use that to find my way.Very beautifull up here when the wind doesnt blow like today, calm here and 100 miles north it was -67 with the wind chill. Were getting ours sunday.

Wow Ziggy it sure looks bleak and barren there is it as bad as it looks?

Just like you see on TV,pure white with nothing to see for miles except blowing snow, the odd cariboo, some arctic hare and a few wolves, still havent seen a muskox.

Lots of clothes and your nice and toasty no matter what. Thought it was cariboo rubbing my side of the tent last night but there was wolf tracks all over so he must have been checking out the new fresh meat. 8O The elders in Baker said it's the wolves that are responsible for the dwindling cariboo herds, not global warming. They say see all the wolves out there? Multiply it by 50 and thats why the cariboo are dissapearing.....interesting.

We got our furnace working,it had ice crystals in the fuel line, nice and toasty in the tent now.Was below zero in here last night. Nice day today,-20 with no wind, got my cat running and now try and get the backhoe running tommorow, all the cabs of the rock trucks are full to the roof with snow, any little hole and thats it,the wind fill it. Going to be -40 sunday with blizzard conditions so we want to get everything running as its been parked since last september when we left.

Then its an ice road for 18 kliks except were running the big rock trucks over the lake, not sure how fast they will be allowed to go but it wont be much packing 100 tonnes or more. Getting a kick out of the rest of my crew as its there first time up here, they didnt believe me when I told them there was no seats on the outdoor shitters and it go's into a 5 gallon can and garbage bag.

So far my cat and a hoe is all thats running, just snowmobiles to bomb around now on.

It's actually quite beautifull in its own strange way.

I don't know Ziggy I freak out when I take a drive in the country and I can't see Sobeys anymore, but your pictures show a great deal of natural beauty. Keep the great pictures coming and I'll admire them ten minutes from the nearest Sobeys.

Supposed to be a lunar eclipse tonight. I'm not sure if it's visible where you are, but if so, it should be impressive amongst all the stars you can see.

What time? Starting to get cold and lots of ice crystals forming so dont know what the visibility will be like soon.Saw a real cool sundog today or sort of,the ring around the sun was huge with 2 rainbow type things on each side of it,left my battery for my cam on the charger or would have got a shot.

I will if my cam will stop freezing. -55 with the windchill today, will hit -66 tommorow. The guys running the delta's with fuel spent last night on the ice,so cold one of their tire rims contracted and lost all its air. They'll be out 2 days before they finally make it here.Tough Inuk bastards.

My new digs,I upgraded from last year, got a chair made out of stakes and a few other goodies not in my older more farther away tent. Got the stove cranked and the wind just settled in,can see my breath in the tent now. Were going to spend the better part of tomm. tacking cardboard pony walls up around our cots and tarping off the half that doesnt need to be heated.Or burying the tent sides with snow,a khabloonik igloo.
Hoping for a white out so dont have to go out in -63 with windchill tomm. Its nice but hard to move with all those cloths on,or see with everything but your peepers covered. heh,if I leave my boots on my tent floor there froze to the ground by morning. My boss showed us a pic on his pc at lunch today,it was the thermometer here two years ago and was at -70 with windchill.

ziggy @ Sat Mar 03, 2007 8:58 pm

I assume the little crescent in the middle is the moon, so what's the bigger circle to the left?
Thats the moon,I was late.the thing on the right is a light from the Boart longear drill shacks.

I had to plow a race track on Sylvan lake 1 winter with a 140G (35000 lbs.), there was 20 inches of ice and had no problems so i think you got lots. But it's still a nasty feeling.
