CDI college tries to remove any bad mouthing on the internet i found a website called cdicollegesucks.com by accident then one week later the site was shut down, after reading alot of other people posts from various forums i feel shamed of the use of so much government money to pay for it all.

Go to BCIT.. they rock.. unfortunately you get what you pay for.. CDI is not an accredited school.. Any of the community colleges are better.. Douglas, Langara or Kwantlen.. there are also other design schools that are fine as well..I'm sorry to hear your story.. but thats why you have to check out everything before you sign up... Sorry I know that doesn't help your situation... but GO TO BCIT.....

cdi sucks, they call themselves a fast paced school and in reality they are not, they just scam money out of you and give you a shitty education, don't take any program through them not even healthcare, it sucks. They treat youl ike you are in kindergarten, raise your hand to ask to go to the bathroom, call your instructore by there last name, and watch your attendance, they say that it is a college but it is not it is like being in kindergarten. The tests are horrible you never know what answer to put down , because if the text book says one thing but it is not what your instuctor has told you you will get it wrong. Do not go to this school it sucks.

This is my horrible experience at CDI College Windsor Ontario.
This is absolutely true. Fellow knowledge seekers PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND CDI COLLEGE! Consider yourself warned!

I have posted the letter below all over hoping for useful solutions that I have overlooked. If anyone has a suggestion, please don't hesitate to email me. [email protected]

Thanks!

PS. I apologize for the length of the letter, but it's as short as I could possibly make it without leaving out the most important information.

=========================================================================

Letter:

To whom it may concern:
I am writing this letter to explain my experience at CDI College Windsor.
When arriving at the campus, I was a little concerned about attending a private school as I was unsure of what to expect. I had been debating if I truly wanted to attend the City College or University instead. After speaking with CDI recruiters, I felt as though their program had more to offer. I was interested in web design, image manipulation, and programming. After doing the research, I found that St. Clair College had a good Graphic Design program, however; their Programming department was lacking. Windsor University was the exact opposite; Programming was good and not Graphics. The CDI campus explained that there was a program offered in their school that had the best of both worlds. This class was called Program Analyst Web Developer or P.A.W.D. for short, and would eventually become my choice for education.
Despite my skepticism, I enrolled solely on the advice of CDI staff whose promises created great appeal. Blind to my own naive nature at the time, I found myself having high hopes for the future. As the school weeks passed, the students and I realized that there were many reasons for concern. The promises were found to be lies, leaving us feeling exploited. Where were the lectures? Where were the teachers? Nothing guaranteed during the initial registration process was found. Occasionally there was a teacher in the classroom but never for very long. Being one of the very few enrolled in my specific program; even when the teacher was there, he was unable to help. The teacher assigned was primarily for Network Administration programs, and knew very little of programming itself. As a result, he was unequipped to assist me in any questions I may have. I’m sure you can realize that this was extremely irritating.
During my initial conversations with the recruiter, I had made sure I was clear about certain things I required in an education institution. Several times I had asked if the classes were taught daily, with yes as my reply. If I had known that things would turn out as they did, I would not have enrolled, and CDI was well aware of this prior to the signing of any documents. As the months passed having minimal assistance, I saw many students removed and drop out. All the students were so appalled with the occurrences, that outbursts were frequent. These outbursts usually consisted of complaints regarding lack of teachers or unavailable equipment. I myself was also frustrated with unavailable software for extended periods of time which eventually put me behind my schedule. (I will explain this in more detail in a moment.) The students eventually decided that enough was enough. Complaints were made to the director and eventually head office. When no helpful response was given, every student signed a petition highlighting their concerns and sent it to head office. This petition also addressed concerns about my specific situation due to its originality. The students were angry that a fellow classmate (me) had an issue that was not being resolved. The school year was passing quickly and I was in dire need of software for two separate modules. I had complained about both for nearly 3 months each. The books for these modules were to learn the applications Photoshop CS2 and Flash MX 2004 for the Graphic part of my program. Although this petition caused some changes such as teacher availability, it was no help for me. Explaining the situation to every student and faculty member had little effect and I too at this point have had enough. Being told there was nothing that could be done forcing me to simply wait until the software became available was unacceptable. These are the type of books that require the software to complete. Though I was reading and trying to accomplish the consumption of some knowledge during this time, without the software itself I would be unable to perform the tasks required throughout. One of the two books did have trial software available in the back, however; I was not allowed to use it due to the rules CDI apparently had to adhere to. It was explained to me that only Microsoft certified software was to be installed on the campus computers. For a school apparently bound to rules and promises, they sure broke a lot. Now completely frustrated beyond control, I found myself in the director’s office. Present was the class teacher (“T”), assistant director at the time (“AD”) and of course the director himself (“D”). After explaining the situation yet again and threatening to obtain a lawyer if action was not taken, “D” and “AD” (sitting side by side behind a desk) decided that the best option would be for me to obtain the software myself. Furious, I explained that these were expensive programs and the only way they could be found to my knowledge for free, would mean they are pirated. I then expressed that this was not my responsibility and this idea made me feel uncomfortable. They then said that if “T” (standing beside me) didn’t have a problem with it then they wouldn’t. Of course, “T” immediately refused to allow anything of that nature. I don’t blame him; his job among other things would be on the line. To be honest, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing myself and was wishing I had a tape recorder present. My idea to skip ahead to the next portion of my course was immediately rejected. To maximize learning potential, there was a strict order that needed to be followed, or so they say. Not knowing what to do they promised to figure something out and asked for my patience. As “T” and I left the office, I noticed “AD” and “D” whispering about something. Moments later, “AD” pulled me into her office and offered me a rewritable disc to put this pirated software on despite my concerns. WOW, I really couldn’t believe this but definitely accepted the disc anyway for evidence. Clearly they weren’t knowledgeable in computers, and didn’t realize that a single disc would not be sufficient. I quickly ran down to the classroom to explain the situation to as many people as possible just in case. The appalled students became enraged and started complaining daily on my behalf. Shortly after, conveniently more issues would arise. “AD” was fired for negligence and I was called to the office. I was then informed that I am behind in my schedule and would have to write a letter to O.S.A.P. requesting continued funding. Again angry, I wrote the letter and risked expulsion by installing trial software for the applications without permission. One as I said was available in the back of the book and the other luckily was found to be available online. Several months later still without resolution from CDI, I had completed Photoshop and Flash, yet am once again frustrated with issues. Called into an office I was informed that my schedule had been incorrect the whole time…so much for that strict order I needed to follow. Missing several books I now found myself having to pay out of pocket to obtain them. Keep in mind, I’m a student and can barely afford to survive at this time. Finding the funds was a very difficult task. The schedule issues would continue three additional times until they would finally be corrected. These issues would thankfully only be with the order so I wasn’t required to purchase anything else.
Praying the torment was over; I completed many other modules without any assistance from CDI. Of course the issues continue though. Called to the office once more, I am surprised to learn that O.S.A.P. has again refused to fund due to being late on the schedule. This is an issue CDI accepts responsibility for when speaking to me. I received multiple apologies as they explained how funding is not within their control and if it was; they would allow me to continue. I asked them to explain to O.S.A.P. what had happened, and that my studies are nearly complete. Refusing to take any chances with their funding, even if it’s due to their own negligence, CDI had left me with their only suggestion. So here I am alone in my issue, nearly finished a program provided by a school unwilling to take responsibility for their mistakes. Still owing $2,196.50 I am forced to work and pay prior to completing as my bank account is garnished for the little money I have. I am also constantly hounded by creditors who threaten to destroy my credit if I don’t pay in full immediately. Broke, sadly I am unable to comply.
I will have paid over 17 thousand dollars for a self taught education. This is not what I had in mind when searching for proper post secondary education. Paying all that money for a book list just doesn’t seem fair. Honestly, everything they provided I could’ve done on my own without the anxiety. I now find myself abandoned by CDI with this unresolved issue, and could really use some help. What would you do if you were me?

Striplay, Have you sent this on to your MLA, ALL local news organizations etc? If not, I suggest that you do so immediately. Particularly any television stations with a 'troubleshooter' segment. Good luck!

And Jaydog should know, he's an English major.

OnTheIce @ Fri Sep 11, 2009 8:50 pm

Why on Earth would anyone spend that amount of money on a half-assed "college"?

With anything, take the time and do a little homework before you jump in with tens of thousands of dollars.

bootlegga @ Mon Nov 30, 2009 6:16 pm

Sorry CDI ripped you off.

A friend went to CDI here in Edmonton and now works for the City in its IT department. We all used to tease him about how he his classes involved memorizing the food court menus and Shopping 101, but in the end, it worked out pretty good for him.

So good in fact that they wanted him to be on one of their advertisements. they wouldn't give him anything for doing it though, so he told them to piss off.

OldChum @ Mon Nov 30, 2009 6:35 pm

Yes I know one person who took a course there and he got a job so I quess it helped him. But I have also read many of the bad things mentioned on here.
