If anyone lives in the abbotsford area and is thinking about attending CDI college I urge you to reconsider. CDI is a horrible school where it seems nothing can be done by the faculty right, theres one instructor in the whole school that knows what he's talking about, they screwed me out of one month of study(sure its only a month but I paid for it so its mine and it may only be $1,000 but being that im a student I dont have $1,000 to spare)and continue to tell me that I'm wrong when I have signed paperwork supporting my arguement, the turn over is so high that you dont know if your instructor is still going be there from one day to the next, and they say that they care about the students education but all they really care about is the almighty $buck$ and thier oh so important hire rate.
So please for the love of god do not go to CDI college
P.S. I'll update this thread the next time these morons bend me over the counter
What did you study at CDI?
I took the network administrator course
Here's a quick rule of thumb: never trust a college or university that advertises itslef like CDI.
I hope everything works out for you.
Lmao where were you when I was signing up lol
Isn't CDI one of those "technical colleges" that you see on TV all the time? "Get your degree in four months" type thing?
14 months I think is CDI's pledge, but yeah. People should be instantly a bit suspicious when a place says you can get your degree in half the time of an established college or university.
Imagine that a college that you leave knowing less going out then you do going in... in Saskatoon CDI is nicknamed Harvard, b/c they build they're school up so much to applicants, and that seems to be all they're good at. Most of their instructors are top of the class past grad's, there are way to many rip off colleges like this. What kind of warning is there for people, to keep from going to these schools? People are wasting a year of their life with big expectations, its really unfortunate and drives people that are trying to change their lives into worse situations then they were in before they began.
when i was in Abby i applied to go to school at a bunch of other colleges. I went through the whole research "what i want to be when i grow up" thing, looked into schools and what courses i would have to take and just go from there.
I ended up at the CDI on the friggin other side of town. The one close to the above the underground clothing place. I asked about some courses there and how everything works. I made up a list of questions that i would need answers for and i did the placement exam and they said that i passed, i picked a course which i wasn't entirely sure about, did the whole tour thing, and a few days went by and they had my contract ready to sign, all the student loan papers ready and i denied them right off the bat.
The reasons...
At the time CDI had some kind of network admin course or something like that for like $28,000. I don't know the exact price but there was no way in hell i was going to get a loan that high just for school. I probably would have failed the course in the first place because at the time i didn't have much interest in computer network stuff...CDI is also non-accredited..
accredited- To recognize (an institution of learning) as maintaining those standards requisite for its graduates to gain admission to other reputable institutions of higher learning or to achieve credentials for professional practice.
next time if someone is looking into education, be sure to do some research through multiple schools, not just ones that you see commercials for or heard of off the bat. It might help you from making a crappy decision. Asking questions and getting answers are very important.
just so you know...
oh yeah, another point i forgot to mention, is always ask if you're going to apply to a school is to ask if they are an accredited school...it will help with the decision making.
I would complane to the local BBB and see what happens
Accreditation...
I'm going to a brand new school, University of Ontario Institute of Technology. It opened in 2003, so i am part of the second year of students. Anyway, as such a new school we have no reputation and none of our programs are completely accredited yet because none of our programs are finnished yet (we have 0 graduates). Luckly so far we are accredited for everything (it is esentially a year to year thing for every single new program) and if all works well we will become Canada's MIT and surpass Waterloo as the top engineering school.
I was once an instructor at CDI...boy, the stories I could tell.
The original name was "Control Data Institute" (CDI), a spin off from "Control Data" a mainframe computer peripheral manufacturer.
I completed a Computer Engineering degree in England 1979. The college was fully recognised by the English Department of Education.
Employers lined up to take you on. I had a job 2 months before the end of my course.
When the current owners bought it out, they were not allowed to use the original name, and it became "Career Development Institute" (CDI).
Now its just a shadow of it's former self.
Please do not take any courses there.
I wish I had come here before signing up with cdi and its too bad that I didnt have the forsight of westielee I was just excited about not being on a work site anymore so I made the decision a little too quickly
P.S. you'v all been so supportive and you guys listening to my gripe has helped me get through a rather difficult time..... so thank you
