"Woke" is essentially the pre-eminence of identity politics over all else. Really it's the natural extension of the "politically correct" movement that preceded it.
I don't have much time for it. JK Rowling, for example. She's been labelled a TERF. I was seeing the most repugnant things said about her, so I wandered over to her Twitter account to see what she had said. Not much, it turns out. She liked a tweet. She mocked the use of the term "people who menstruate" instead of "women."
That is completely out of whack with the response, which includes, of course, death and rape threats to her and her children. Admittedly, that's the fringe element, but they've been enabled by the vitriol pouring out from the mainstream objectors. These people want her destroyed and erased for expressing her opinion o politics.
The same people complaining about the De Santis book bans want her books banned. They say she's a Nazi, that she should go to jail.
It's completely unhinged from anything she has said.
Identity politics is a important part of politics--equality and security for under-represented groups should concern us. But viewing everything through the prism of identity politics is...well...when all you have is a hammer, all your problem look like nails. And ultimately it's just tiresome
WOW!!! Where the hell have you been hiding? You may very well be the most sane person on CKA! God knows we need you. Years ago there were many people like you hanging around here. These days you you can count the people who don't take their marching orders from the politburo on one hand. A hand that lost a few fingers in a meat grinder at that. Please post more!!!
I always enjoy when you come here, take a snipe, say something stupid and fuck off for 2 weeks when someone responds.
Teachers are dangerous. All of them, not just the religious kooks, but also the ones who get churned out every year from the ideology farms the universities have been all turned into.
Home school your kids if you can. If it's a religious or a secular home education doesn't even slightly matter. It's the only way to guarantee their safety, mentally, intellectually, & emotionally as much as physically, from the genuine monsters of all stripes who are just waiting to pounce and eat them alive.
It sure does. But home is the only place left to go to when everything outside of it turns out to be that much worse.
Not necessarily, but it also depends on the definition of "home". One would assume this is the dwelling one's parents or parent/step parent also live in. Sometimes it is the home of someone else one is related to that offers sanctuary from the traditional "home".
I know a young couple that have opted to home school their children and just today a friend of ours told us her daughter has opted to home school her younger son who would have started school this year. The reasons are the same as they are not comfortable with the direction schools have taken.
I also know a woman who has worked as a teacher's aide who decided not to return to the school system this year because it has all become "too much" as she put it.
Good for them. I hope it works out for all of them, especially the kids. Even more so I hope the day doesn't come for them that the jackboot of the "compassionate" people in our governments don't kick their doors down and drag the kids off to a public school for some mandatory indoctrination in kindness.
How in the living hell did it ever come to a situation like this?

Yes you are totally right. How DARE someone teach children to be kind to everyone. They should instead have detailed 2 minute lessons on who to hate and why and how much they should hate them.
Teach them the line be between gay-bashing and manslaughter. Remind them that if you drive someone to suicide with your hatred, it's not your fault. No means yes. Teach the children that heaven is reserved exclusively for white, protestant men and that hell reserved for the Jews.
Sorry you missed the sarcasm. Didn't think anyone could ever miss it given that pretty much all of my posts are drenched in it now, which is an uncontrollable reaction on my part that's been pushed into warp speed thanks to the non-stop fucking horror show this world has become. Although I have no doubt there's multitudes out there that legit believe having someone who disagrees shut off their moral code altogether to fully embrace the groupthink of the zeitgeist is actually some form of true kindness. Guess it's not kind to them though when some of the stubborn refusniks show them some beliefs just aren't for sale, or that they won't be abandoned no matter how fierce the coercion gets. Must suck to have the totalitarian mindset when those kind of people get too annoying.
BTW, I thought that it wasn't possible to drive someone to suicide, or was it only impossible in the case of Richard Bilkszto?
