Abusive officers is a minority. .

Sorry but I watch Treehouse TV .

if you give cops the right to shoot deliberate J walkers

you have to figure out what is realistic and live with that outcome .[/quote]

'Bob' your statements give me the impression that you have not yet reached the 'ripe old age of 16 years ' yet! Add 20 years to that number and by then you MAY have SOME life experience on which to base opinions.

Scenario:

You are a cop. You are on night shift. You are to walk the beat on the lower east side alone. Do you make sure that you have any weapons with you? What are they? Why did you choose those weapons?
You happen upon an armed robbery ( firearm) in progress. How do you handle the situation?

Sorry but I watch Treehouse TV lol and I think it would be safe to say that you have an entire lifetime to meet that one cop the odds of meeting him or her is very high .You have to ask the question have you ever met a cop , how many , how many do you think you'll meet over your lifetime , how did you conduct yourself and how did the cop conduct his/herself.

This is not going to happen but if you give cops the right to shoot deliberate J walkers the number of cops shooting citizens will rise just like if you voted for police to shoot pedophiles on the spot ,those numbers would rise too . If you want a police state you have to figure out what is realistic and live with that outcome .

What did you miss in my post. I work on a daily basis, associate on a daily basis and have had many a meeting with officers.

Where did anyone say we are giving officers the right to shoot J walkers or pedophiles on the spot?

You really dont make much sense at all. Run along...Treehouse is calling.

My answer: I call Rebecca Peters from the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA) to remind everyone how rude it would be to defend oneself from robbers. Just give them the money and let them be on their way. The worse crime would be to use force to stop them from committing their crime.

Yep. Shep is a long time member and contributor. You'll find that you will enjoy the same latitude when the same can be said of you.

There's an old saying that rank has its privileges.

Personally I would call that carelessness on the cops behalf and I'm not sure I would call a cop walking the beat on the lower east side alone necessarily up to any good himself .

'SIDE-STEP'!!!

They are fairly straight forward questions that only require fairly straight forward answers. Are you up to the task or not???

stokes @ Tue Mar 04, 2008 1:01 pm

Does anyone truly understand how the "Use of Force" criteria that Cops follow actually works? Here is the jist of it:

Level one: Verbal Reasoning

Level Two: Open Hand compliance-use of hand and foot self-defence => Back to Level one

Level Three: Closed Hand Compliance-use of tools such as Asp Baton, Pepper Spray etc. => back to Level one

Level Four: Use of non -lethal tools such as a Taser => Back to Level One

Level Five: Use of Lethal Force such as Firearms, there is no going back!

Police do not aim to wound or scare as with professions where Lethal Force is involved they shoot centre of mass to kill. cops who play hollywood style games are weeded out pretty quickly and fired. Why do you think most Police Forces have such a rigorous selection process?

no side step seriously . Two dangerous scenarios #1 domestic disputes , police have figured out not to go in because it is a dangerous situation and now usually ends up as a standoff without altercation #2 traffic pull over, cop gets shot , then another traffic cop gets shot , then another , and then another and so and so on the approach is careless but if they go in with guns drawn people will be killed protcol doesn't say step 1 2 3 and 4 are in effect on traffic violations so maybe one day police will treat traffic violations with care I sincerely hope that doesn't need an explanation .Now if you want a really good non sidestepping explanation to the lone cop on the east side call for backup do not approach the scene wait and watch out of dangers reach or you can pull your pea shooter jump out pointing it, and holler freeze ! , down on the ground! , drop your weapon ! and of course get pounded full of holes while attempted to play hero and in effect causing possible serious harm to others from your gun and the perpetrator to also kill other people by defending your wild west actions .

What a very poorly laid out argument.
Sorry bobackwords. No one's beating you up because you're new. It's just that you don't have any facts or details on the subject.

I had to pay my dues, too. Stick around long enough and behave and you'll find the mods and everyone else will cut you slack on occasion.

Although cliquishness is unavoidable in any forum, it is extremely muted here.

What are you trying to say here? That we should be wary of cops walking on their own?

The whole thread is very silly. You are getting you're views from watching youtube and I really am having a hard time trying to define the point, if any, that you are trying to make?

Are you saying that we should disarm police and not trust them because you watch youtube?
