Yesterday at around 071500ZAUG2010 a pair of women came to my door, one was quite elderly and the other was in her mid 40s. As you may have guessed they were spreading the 'good word' about jehovah. Now they were very courteous and pleasant and so I was the same, they wanted to talk about how the reference to Jehovah is being stricken from the bible by evangelicals and other religions, catholics. They handed me a pair of, I guess you could call them pamphlets, the first called "Do you know god by name" and the second being "Awake!" . They also offered me a challenge, to read what they give me and discuss it next Saturday.
I plan to do that and more, most of what I have read is either assumption, fear mongering or just plain ignorant dribble. http://www.watchtower.org/ is the web site that was on the literature they gave me and it has some interesting stuff.
So please join me and help me come up with some topics to talk about with these people.
Like I have always been curious about the blood transfusion thing, it seems like they take leviticus to the extreme, why?
Now I dont want this to turn into a flame war rather just a discussion, please try to stay on topic.
Jehovah's Witness is a cult ... anti catholic and full of shit.. they shun their children if they don't go along with the cult and they will pay for a divorce if they recruit one partner and not the other... read Inside the Jehovah's Witness..
best not to take their trashy pamphlets.. One of my brothers is Jehovah's Witness and he shunned his own son because his girlfriend wouldn't join up .. they married and now he is dead in their eyes... nice eh?
Book Description
The zeal and dedication of Jehovah's Witnesses mask a highly disciplined organization that has a troubled history. Moreover, their thorough knowledge of their own scriptures gives a pretense of having spiritual truth. The movement has grown from about 1.1 million worldwide in 1965 to 4.4 million today. Yet all is not what it seems in the Watchtower Society. How do the teachings of the Jehovah's Witnesses run counter to orthodox Christianity? What drives adherents to give hundreds of hours a year to "witnessing"? What draws converts to a cult of strict control by religious leaders? Why this series? This is an age when countless groups and movements, old and new, mark the religious landscape in our culture, leaving many people confused or uncertain in their search for spiritual truth and meaning. Because few people have the time or opportunity to research these movements fully, these books provide essential information and insights for their spiritual journeys. Each book has five sections: - A concise introduction to the group - An overview of the group's theology -- in its own words - Tips for witnessing effectively to members of the group - A bibliography with sources for further study - A comparison chart that shows the essential differences between biblical Christianity and the group -- The writers of these volumes are well qualified to present clear and reliable information and help us discern religious truth from falsehood. Its by Robert Bowman Jr. I bought this book when my brother joined because his wife did.. he tried recruiting the rest of us and the only material about them at that time came from them. I got the title of the book from the library at the uniiversity. My brother says the author is a wicked man.. ya right..
Yes I do know they paid for a divorce, I am very good friends of their son. The wife joined and the husband wouldn't and because she had no money they paid for it. They don't publicize this but it is common practice. I have done alot of research since by brother joined. You might want to do some research yourself. There was a program on television about the children of witnesses who have been shunned and some are living on the streets. There is nothing Christian about them. They are an organization full of secrets and fund raising.
The divorce issue is only within their cult. If both partners are Jehovah's then they should not divorce. If however you are a new recruit they will make sure you divorce if one partner will not join.
Well be careful. they are experts in brain washing.. do your research and not just from them.
Cook them up some fish for lunch and ask them if it is good enough for Jehovah.
It's cute how they think their Delusion is better than various Christian's delusions.
