They were already intelligent.

Not really. They were aware of their existence, but nothing more.

The wikipedia article defines intelligence as:

$1:
Intelligence is a property of the mind that encompasses many related abilities, such as the capacities to reason, to plan, to solve problems, to think abstractly, to comprehend ideas, to use language, and to learn. There are several ways to define intelligence. In some cases, intelligence may include traits such as creativity, personality, character, knowledge, or wisdom. However, some psychologists prefer not to include these traits in the definition of intelligence.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligence

The Free Online Dictionary defines intelligence as:

$1:
1.
a. The capacity to acquire and apply knowledge.
b. The faculty of thought and reason.
c. Superior powers of mind. See Synonyms at mind.
2. An intelligent, incorporeal being, especially an angel.

Now that we have defined intelligence as pretty much being aware and having a capacity for learning, Adam and Eve were not intelligent until eating the forbidden fruit.

And since I'm on that topic, I've got a Revised Standard Version Holy Bible that contains the Old and New Testaments. This is a family heirloom from at least the mid 19th century.

Here's what it has to say about the subject at hand...

Genesis 3 to Genesis 3:5

$1:
Now the serpent was more subtle than any other wild creature that the Lord hath made. He said to the woman, "Did God say, 'You shall not eat of any tree of the garden'?" And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; but God said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'" But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

Interestingly enough, the Bible helps prove my point...Again...

After eating the fruit, they became intelligent.

It is also interesting to note that the passage(which is ancient I might add) pretty much shows God's humanity. He is deliberately hiding something from people and lied, which last time I checked, was a sin.

God is not perfect, nor is Christianity. Drop the bullshit holier-than-thou routine, because even your God couldn't get it right...
There is not anywhere in these dictionary definitions that says remotely anything about this 'Good and evil' What the serpent was talking about, is there? So you are trying to join the 2 together, which it just doesn't work.

God never said that!

Yes, he did. Eve even said so...

Genesis 3:2 Genesis 3:2:
And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; but God said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'"

In layman's terms, God lied. Lying is a sin.

Like I said(and have now proved), drop the holier-than-thou routine, because even God couldn't get that right...

Adam and Eve (mankind) are so smart, look at the mess we are in. The globe planet is going nuts.

Hold up. Now you're saying they are stupid? Even though ten minutes ago you said they were smart?

Knowledge of Good and evil is being intellegent? See if you can pass the degrees, tests at the universities, based solely on your knowledge of GOOD and EVIL <<<literal word for word. They will kick your ass out

Um, okaaaayy...

First of all, speak English and spell worth a damn.

Secondly, this has to do with what, exactly? :?

That makes no sense. Now you are just spewing random bullshit.

If you knew shit about language, you would see that after eating the fruit, they became fully aware and "ashamed". This could also be construed as abstract thought and knowledge, both of which are encompassed by the definition of intelligence.

Stop blaming mankind.

I just showed you some serious problems in the first few pages of the Bible and all you can do is ramble on and on about bullcrap...

I proved that God lied and that you are a blind, hypocritical fool.

I'm done with you. Go back to the flock little sheep... :P

So? It was still a lie and the serpent of all creatures was actually telling a partial truth! The serpent told more truth than God!

God lied. Just accept that your beloved Lord sinned. :P

$1:
THE SERPENT said you will know good and evil. Come on get it right.

But I'm not talking about that now.

I'm talking about how God lied and thusly sinned and how the Bible is pretty much full of holes right from page three...

You still have yet to offer any concrete evidence to the contrary that by Biblical and universal definition, God did not lie...

adahen @ Mon Dec 10, 2007 8:04 pm

From what I remember of the Bible it states "Treat others as you would like to be treated" also to be tolerant of one another. I feel if every person did that like actually treated each other as though we were someone then maybe we could worry about less things like going to Hell.Maybe we could have Peace and Harmony

True, but as long as people like B_C and myself exist, that will never happen...

For the Love of God, can you not read?!

I cannot make it any more simple then the following:

God told them not to eat the fruit or even touch it or they will die as a result.

They touched and ate the fruit, and didn't die.

God telling them that they would die when they wouldn't, is a lie.

Lying is a sin.

Thusly, God sinned.

Ergo, God is imperfect.

And I'm doing the same fucking thing.

Reasoning, good and evil, right and wrong; all of it is subject to individual human interpretation...

On that particular word of DIE does not mean a physical death. It means being away from God, away from the precence of God. Which what evidently happened, as you very well know. So logically thats what it means one to die. By being away from the precence of God. But now today he reconcyles mankind to himself by the death and reesurrection of Jesus Christ.
