For f***'s sake people, how the hell did 'gay' make it into this thread! Stay on topic next time eh??
Sorry Denms, hope they didn't scare you away lol
I'm Alberta born and raised and when we would drive to the coast we always went Jasper way, however, that's coming down from Fort McMurray, it was just faster to go that way than all the way down south and across!
Either way you're definitely in for some great scenery! Especially in the Kootenay National Park, just outside of Radium Springs!
Ok Tman and Ziggy, we get the point. Quit taking jibes at each other How old are you anyway??
Thanks Dimoreien, thats what I more or less said in more civil terms.
To the creator of this thread. It's my fault this thread got F--- off. My apologies.
I'd say he's more than 20 years my elder but acts 20 years my younger. Go figure eh?
No comment Tman, not getting involved in this
Nor should you. He initiated and I responded. That's his problem not anybody elses.
I would recommend Quappelle through Drumheller then Calgary and the #1 through to Kelowna and Edmonton and Humboldt on the way home because your time doesn't alot for much different approach . I see people arguing about the #3 and through southern BC , its nice once you arrive at Frank but once you've arrived in Kelowna there isn't much you would have missed from that detour .If you want real majestic Rockies the #1 would be the way to go and it would be a shame to miss .I'm guessing the best part of your trip will be your visit to Kelowna but the Rockies will be an enormous breath taking eye opener .
T-man if you would have said you can do Kelowna in under four hours he might have believed you because at an average of about 175kmph it took 3 hours 10 minutes to the Banff park gates and probably would have taken another 40 minutes to Calgary from there....30min if the speed rouse by another 40kmph . I suppose its possible to do it in under 3and half hrs but this 300ZX was holding onto the road pretty good but not good enough to average higher with no pee breaks.
Ok. So to get this BACK on topic
Denms, I have to say the drive through south eastern Alberta is kinda dull, I've driven the Medicine Hat way myself before. But driving TO the west, there are two spots that are really cool to see. Flat plain before you and then the vally that is Drumheller opens up before you. Pretty cool! The second cool site is right before you hit Calgary, you crest a hill and there's Calgary and the Mountains! It's awesome!
Man my spelling is off today.
Keep in mind I "guesstimated" and took another route. What road he takes is his choice. I never claimed I was spot on right.
denms, it looks like this probably won't be on your itinerary but if it's at all possible you should drive the Duffy Lake Road portion of the Sea-To-Sky highway. It runs between Cache Creek and Pemberton.
Absolutely stunning.
All this talk about travel in Western Canada has me really geared up for this summer!! My husband and I are coming for a visit, my husband is Scottish and has never been to Canada! We're flying Glasgow to Vancouver, spending a week in Victoria and then we're taking the train from Vancouver over the Rockies to Edmonton! From Edmonton it's up north to Fort McMurray for a little less than a week, and then back down to Edmonton for our second wedding (We got married in Scotland last year but none of my family could make it, so we're having a second one in Canada!), we'll be there for a week and then it's on to Calgary/Banff/Drumheller. We depart from Calgary back to Glasgow.
All in all we're back for nearly 4 weeks. Soo excited. First time I'll have been back in nearly three years!
Thank you everyone for the help.
Streaker, I am only going as far west as Kelowna because I have relatives there I have never seen in 15 Years, and they want me to visit.
I have been looking at a map last night of Alta and BC, but have a hard time figuring out the distances and time it would tale to reach my destinations.
Streaker, you said I should go further west to vancouver. I would like to, but how long a drive is it?
I will have no kids witrh me, just my wife and I.
I am renting a car.
I want to definately see the mountains. Have seen the flatlands before in Sask, but not west of there.
What about these glaciers I hear about west of Edmonton? Where are they?
I only have a little over a week to do all this so, I hope to see as much as I can during that time.
