Palin sticks to her guns after US history flub

I'm not wrong. I cited Paul Revere's own words here to back up the history I've known for some forty years. All you've got for a reasoned retort is "GFY" because I am right and you know you've got nothing else and it's pissing you off that Palin is right on this when you really, really would like her to be wrong.
We're not talking about what Revere knew, we're talking about what Palin knows. I don't want Palin to be wrong. You're confusing me with someone else. You WANTING me to want her to be wrong is where you're wrong.
BartSimpson BartSimpson:
I'll concede that maybe she got this right by accident. That's entirely possible. But the fact remains is that she got it right and you can cry and scream all you want and it won't make her wrong.
She didn't get it right by accident. She got one small part of the story right. Mostly she got it FUCKING WRONG. How can you not get that? Btw, your neg rep points will be coming as soon as I get bumped back to the power of 5, asshat.
xerxes @ Mon Jun 06, 2011 10:31 am
For me, it's not so much that she got it wrong, it's that she categorically REFUSES to acknowledge it. She cannot admit she was even remotely wrong and worst of all, her brainless acolytes are aiding and abetting her denial of reality.

Where? You cite
her exact words and then show where she was wrong by citing an actual source...like, I don't know, how about
Paul Revere?

Let's see, I've had my knee shot away, had artillery dropped on my head, had screaming jihadis running after me, venomous snakes in my tent, had a freaking funnelweb spider crawl up my arm, and I've had to deal with Mrs. Bart on PMS but, by far, the scariest thing I've ever been faced with in this mortal coil is the prospect of your impending negative rep point.

If she said she were wrong then you'd both be wrong.

Her exact words, to anyone with rudimentary grasp on the English language, have her declaring that the PURPOSE of Revere's ride was to warn the British. Her exact words were that Revere was ringing bells to warn the British that the colonists would not be handing over their guns. That is categorially incorrect. The fact that he later bumped into the British had nothing to do with what Palin was talking about and I strongly doubt that she (and you) was/were even aware that had happened.

See, that's funny, almost +rep worthy. Why you had your knickers in a twist over what I said is still baffling though.

Wow, Am I ever enjoying this thread. Keep it up fella's, Four pages on Palin. Sure beats root canal work.

The admiration some Americans have for this particular creature remains genuinely astounding.
She really cranked up the Tea Baggers.
Sh*t.
I really hate this when it happens but...

That's what I just had for lunch.
So while I will say that what Palin initially said was borne out by the facts, she went on FOX News a while ago and 'clarified' that Revere intended to warn the British...which he absolutely did not.
Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. (That's Latin for I am very, very sorry)
Still, is it too much to ask that the level of hatred aimed at this woman be dialed down? It's not like she's more evil than Robert Mugabe, Gaddhafi, Hugo Chavez, or etc.
In any case, she meant to say that Revere intended to warn the British.
Geez.

None of them are influential or representative of a significant segment of the populatinon of a country that matters a damn, nor do they have any effect on the world. You want to beat the drums for hatred for those guys, feel free.
It's very hard to dial down scorn for someone who's mobilizing the most ignorant movement in US politics today. It makes the whole US political system out to look like some sort of sideshow. I'll admit it's sort of fun to watch and laugh about but it's truly scarey to know that so many of these folk seriously believe what they say.

Let me put it this way, I can understand being opposed to her being President. Fair enough.
But
hating her?
Would I be then justified in hating Obama because I don't agree with 90% of what he does?
I guess that's the thing for me, I may be opposed to Obama but I for damn sure don't
hate him. In that lens it is just lost to me why anyone would invest so much in hating Palin.
I dare say, were Sarah Palin to die tomorrow I wonder how many people would be actively happy or satisfied about it?
Dragon-Dancer Dragon-Dancer:

What? You think that our political system being a sideshow is
something new?
Well no, not really but one would hope that you could at least pretend it isn't once in a while.

If we ever stop treating politics like just another form of entertainment we'll be at each other's throats by the end of the day.

That's totally worth a pos rep!
I suppose, as far as knickered knots...ahem...I mean
knotted knickers go, the same could be said for both sides, simply because she's become emblematic of a larger struggle taking place now in the US.
And kudos to Bart for owning up to a mistake too. It takes balls, and you don't see it often on here. (Intestinal fortitude, I mean, not balls.)
