With the suggestion by Scape, I've added a new Medal called "Spam Buster".

Oh and BTW, the best thing to help against spam is to put a minimal posts before posting links. Like 10.

This medal is mostly going to be given out my myself or the mods, since we usually are the only ones to see most of the spam. There are already a couple candidates for the medal.
The medals in forum threads have been absent for a long time, to reduce the amount of database queries and speed up page loading. To have them there requires 1 extra query per user in that thread. So it can be up to 15 extra queries for something that probably isn't viewed all that much.

with the suggestion from Scape, I added a mod that checks if a topic subject already exists when you're posting a new topic.
Currently it only does exact matches, but hopefully soon it will make broader matches.

I was wondering if you could add a "global warming/climate change" subforum, so it is not constantly spamming the current events thing?
Or automatically merge all the AGW topics into one?

I've installed something on the server which will make the site faster! The site was already mostly pretty speedy becahse of good hardware. But this new PHP opcode cache will make it even faster.
Most ppl won't understand what this is, but it rocks my world.
