What would it be in SK? Launch the rate calculator: http://www.sgi.sk.ca/rates/rate_calc.htm

Let me know what you find out... or tell me what you drive and I'll find out.

According to that, the most (zero safety rating) I'd pay is $90/month. I currently pay $165/month. Bring on public insurance!

I tried the calculator, but It doesnt give a breakdown on coverage just cost. It is a little cheaper than what I pay, but not much. I have full coverage on my car. I hate ICBC when it comes to claims though.

Bring on public insurance and the unions that come with it. All the costs to implement it as well. Remember the days in Alberta when a trip to the vehicle registry was an all day affair? They made you line up like cattle ...if you asked a legitimate question you were shuffled off to the next line and a long wait!

Can you imagine the "quality service" you will get when you have a question about your insurance over the phone? Imagine if you have to make a claim

I know what would happen the people with perfectly clean driving records will rise while the teenagers and new drivers will save money. NO thanks we have enough socialism in this country .I like freedom of choice.

Ah, yes, our wonderful privatized registries that allow people to steal sensetive documents and pass them on to criminals linked to the Air India terrorists. What a boon those have been.

And our wonderful free market insurers who squabble for years and sue each other over who should pay out instead of just paying out.

Yes, I much prefer that to low rates and secure registries.

You're to young to remember the "cattle lineups" and to be treated like shit by some lazy overpaid union puke who was rejected by the post office:lol:

If somebody wants your documents they'll get them . What makes you think a government run agency would be more secure? Union members don't steal

My insurance company is not the cheapest but they provide the best service. You get what you pay for.

Actually I do remember long lineups. I got my learners I think ten years ago today. Isn't that odd? Anyways, if the goverment didn't have this irrational fear of a large enought o be effective public service, there wouldn't need to be lines. If teh government bought up all teh private registries out there today, and kept them open and staffed like they do presently, yea, we'd see a massive increase in costs to the Government, but not to the public because the money would just be gooing to a different place.

And yea, a government agency has more power to enforce security than Billy-Bob's fly-by-night private registry.

And you pay for insurance company profits.

It would cost a fortune to turn auto insurance public. Guess who would be paying [?]
You don't have to go to Billy Bob's ..you do have a choice. I'm sure places like the AMA are as secure as any government run outfit. There is probably 10 places within 10 minutes of my house to choose from.

Profits.....dirty word.....which means good service.

You can't seriously be this dense. You don't have to go there for them to have access to all your info. They all have all your info. It's what they DO! And did you even read that story I linked to? Cars stolen from BC were registered in Edmonton at a private registry. You don't have to go to Billy-Bob's registry to have your car stolen. [?]

No, a word which means, when you don't have a choice as to whether you buy it or not, paying more than you have to for a service you're legally required to have.

I love ICBC, Their rates are awesome, and I have never had a problem with a claim.

I had a mix of private/ICBC insurance on my 2006 Escape, because of the private if I wanted to insure my wife it would cost an extra 400 per year, when I went to strictly ICBC it went down.

I lived in Ontario for a year and my insurance jumped $600 a year.

However, it used to be that a speeding ticket did not count against your insurance, now if you get a ticket in BC your insurance will go up and heaven help you if you get caught speeding excessively!

As I said a government agency would protect us from theft  no matter where they fished your info out off.

My insurance company...Home...including a few extras and Auto..one stop shopping. I buy what I want set my own deductibles and pay virtually the same price for auto insurance as I would in Saskatchewan...I checked . I wonder how much more I would have to pay for my home insurance if I was forced to split it up. I'm sure my insurance company would charge me the same amount.

Here’s my story about a private insurance company. I had a run in with a kid on a bike, even tho he ran a red light I was charged. But that’s another story, no serious injuries just a flatten out bike. This all happened on a Friday, the 16th of the month. Monday morning I get a phone call from my insurance company telling me that there had been a claim already filed against me. So right away I’m telling by side of the story and the girl interrupts me to say , what she was calling me about was that my premium was do on the 1st of that same month and was wondering if I had intentions of paying it, if so they could proceed with the claim. Of course I said I’d be right down. lol I had received my renewal notice about 6 weeks before and had never even opened the envelope and completely forgot about it. I opened it when the cop asked for proof of insurance and still didn’t realize that I hadn’t paid it.

This left me a big fan of private insurance.

Hey, here's my story with ICBC, wondering if anyone knows if there's a thing I can do about it.

2 years ago I got in an accident, breaks locked up, wet day rear-ended someone. I slid about 50 ft. and by the time I hit his bumper was almost to a complete stop, the accident was a minor bump, no damage to either vehicle.

The driver claimed he was fine and wouldn't even bother reporting it since there was no damage done, I was currently insured under a transfer slip from my Jeep Cherokee I had taken off the road a couple days ago.

a few weeks later in the mail I receive a notice saying I owe ICBC 2500$ for this persons injuries.

I contacted ICBC and explained what happened and asked how I can go about fighting the charge, I was told I can not fight the charge because a doctors note was issued and there's nothing I can do about it and my transfer paper would not cover it because in the small print it is only legal insurance if I sold my old vehicle, which I did not.

So when I went to purchase my truck for work, a 2005 1 ton Chevy silverado I of course could not insure it untill I payed my 2500$ debt, which I did at the time because I had no other choice and had to go to work.

Since then I tried contacting different departments to no avail and I'm still down 2500$ but on the plus side, my insurance rates did not drop do to the accident because I wasn't on my insurance... right?

Well, on my cheapest possible plan, with collision my insurance costs me 3685$ annually, and that's with my 6 years accident free rate.

How can this be right? 3685 every single year, just to have the privaledge of getting to work.

Anyways I just decided to try to look into it and see if anyone has some advice for me on how I can deal with ICBC, I'm at a loss and they are sucking my bank account dry.

Well that's my rant, feel free to contact me at [email protected], I might not remember to come back to the forum, thanks.

As usual, you don't have a clue what you're talking about. I've never had a problem with ICBC's service. They've screwed me over, but they were quick about it.

There' may be no free choice, but I can live with it as car insurance is still cheaper than in provinces with privatized insurance companies.

herbie @ Wed Sep 17, 2008 9:59 pm

Explain how you want a 6 year accident free rate if you just described an accident you had two years ago.
Sometimes you just get the shit end of the stick. 10 years back a carload of immigrants who could see me for a block swerved, creased their hubcaps on my bumper (they only tore off the little rubber strip on my bumper) and all claimed whiplash.
It was my fault as the bumper was protruding 6" past the stop line....
That one cost ICBC $14,000 to settle and took me 10 years to get my insurance back down.
You could buy your collision somewhere else and maybe save a couple hundred bucks, but be warned they're even more assholic with the fine print than ICBC is.

Buy an older, cheaper car if it is "JUST for the privaledge of going to work".

I pay 4 times more than what I paid in Holland. Suck it up.
