I dont know. Now when I hear Chretien talk I dont immediately get the impression the guy is a moron.
When I hear the president talk I do. That must count for something.
[quote="Wingnut1"]Don't be too sure of yourself Buford. I wouldn't if I were you.
I'm real sure if you continue to show your ass,the person I referred to will deal with you appropriately. And your not me,and I am sure of myself.
And if you guys wanna boot me off the site, knock yourself out. Been expecting that anyway, truth be told. Anyone who disagrees with you leftist bastards is either drowned out in noise or shut up, or simply ejected from the group. It'd make my case nicely...so by all means, go for it.
Nobody gets booted off this site unless they are making personal attacks,or comes to the site posting about how much Canada sucks.Rush Limbaugh could post on this site,as long as he didn't make vicious personal attacks, and so long as he was willing to share some of his pain medication. If you are going to insult somebody, try to be a little more subtle - after all, that's the Canadian way.And remember the name of this site - Canada kicks Ass kinda sounds to me like it's meant to be pro Canadian, and rightly or wrongly, there's bound to be some jabs at the U.S. However, you'll find that there are Canadians on this site who share your beliefs and absolutely adore the U.S. - I'm even trying to locate some nude photos of Bush to send to one of them.
Blair, if the people all think like you do, I MEANT to insult them....maybe it'll cause them to take a real good look at themselves and wonder why they agree with you. If not, well...that's their problem, not mine.
Me and Blair were switched at birth, he's the lucky bastard though -he got to live in Canada. And I took a real good long look in the mirror this morning, and I said what I always say - "I love you, and Twila too" I also noticed some wrinkles around my eyes from seeing some of the same things Rev Blair bitches about for too many years. And I got some of those wrinkles from dealing with various crazy women over the years, but that's another story.
And finally, "Leftist bastard" I kinda like the sound of that, and it's alot shorter than Leftist-Commie-Pinko-Fag.And it's alot better than the truly soul wrenching label of (gasp!) UN-AMERICAN.Anyway, I think you are an Asshole, but to be fair I consider you to be a well-meaning Asshole. I'd suggest you try some oxycotin to help you chill out a bit, but it obviously didn't help Rush Limbaugh, of course it might have had something to do with the dosage he was taking.Well anyway, if you promise to play sorta nice from now on ,I won't summon the world's smoothest Canadian to come here and smite you right off this site.
Oh, and........ HI TWILA!
Wing, you meant to insult anybody who doesn't agree with you. You have a long history of such behaviour. It's a transparent attempt to keep dissenting opinions out of the public eye as much as possible. Kind of like why you came to CKA this time around...stalking is a sign of mental illness, whether you are pretending to be somebody else or admitting who you really are, Wing. You should see a psychiatrist about that.
As for education...conservatives have been in charge of it for a very long time. The record speaks for itself. The idea that moving things even further to the will help in some way is ridiculous.
Explain how they've been in charge of it Rev. I'm in need of a good laugh. NOT Canada's system, because what you guys call a conservative up there would be a flaming leftist down here. Our system. Show me anywhere in the past...oh, since the second administration of Franklin Roosevelt where it has been in conservative hands. The CATHOLIC system, I will agree with you. While I'm not Catholic and I think they teach a lot of nonsense, they DO happen to turn out kids with the highest test scores in the country. I won't guess what the reason for that is beyond the fact that in Catholic schools, discipline seems to be the order of the day and in public schools it is forbidden lest we screw up somebody's self-esteem.
Assimilation into society most definitely does matter Feeko, no argument at all. But not just for immigrants...it's important for the kids who the diploma mills keep kicking out into society at the age of 18 without the ability to read or comprehend verbal instructions. I honestly don't want the education system to be taken over by right wing people; I just want to kick the left out of it altogether and let genuine education begin to take shape and occur. Achieving a level of mediocrity would be a vast improvement over what we have now.
Finally, Laconfir I'm well aware of the fact that Chretien (thank GOD he's gone) is a French Canadian. I believe that your country now has THREE official languages too, if you include Inuit, which you should. Mr. Bush has some speech habits that drive me nuts too (Nookewlar instead of nuclear) but hey, you want me to respect Chretien's speech impediments which are as a result of his being from Quebec, understand that most of Bush's are because of the fact that he's from Texas. Ever been to Texas Laconfir? I used to live there once upon a time. Took me ten years to get that fucking Texas slang out of my voice and there are people who tell me today, 19 years later, that I still have a touch of it. Thanks for making my point for me though.
Buford, as long as I'm allowed to continue posting here I'll express my opinion just as you do, just as everyone else does. Now I'm telling you man...go to the web administrator and tell him you want me banned. That's fine...although even though I don't know him, I suspect he doesn't mind a variety of opinions here. If he does? Well, I don't care to be here anyway...so have at it. Blair and I have a long history...I'm not going to bore you with details because it'll turn into a his-word-against-mine situation and nobody wants to read it. There are two sides to every issue though and you'd be making a mistake by not understanding that. I didn't come over here (the most recent time) to chase Blair around, I came over here because I was invited to do so...to provide an alternate viewpoint somewhere where it is very obviously missing otherwise. Think I'll hang around too. If it pisses Blair and his disciples off, it must be a good thing.
.... Wingnut... I never attacked Bush's speech... It was someone else.. It was when you commented about Chretiens speech that I said that.... Another difference though.... Its not because of where Chretien is from that he speaks "funny".... Its because of his Native tounge.... and I'm sure he is very fluent in French compared to his English.... Anyway... it's stupid to attack anyone for their looks or speech, especially if its just an accent.... Its alot easier to point out how stupid Bush is then just him mis-pronouncing words...
so personal attacks aside. He said she said aside, can we get back on topic whatever that may be. I've lost my grasp on what we're suppose to be debating here.
I think that it is best to have a dissenting (if that's the right word) of opinion. It spices up the topics. It'd be just plain weird if we all agreed about everything. We need to realize that it is ok to think differently. And there are a few here that are able to do that.
We do not have any stupid people here. Just people who feel or think differently about various issues.
And because we ALL seem to be having trouble with this:
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."
-Aristotle
"If we cannot now end our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity."
-John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Since the last coherent topic at hand was education:
It is my firm belief that education is not limited to the class room. Nor should it only lay on the teacher shoulders. If education is as bad as everybody says it is then we should acknowledge that and take up the slack at home. To see what is wrong and do nothing is as bad as cuttig the purse strings for funding. At no other time in history have parents sent their kids off and expected the school to babysite, educate and discipline (with out damaging delicate self esteem, mind you) their kids while doing nothing of it themselves.
We've taken away the teachers right to control the class room. We've taken away any displine they could use. We expect them to perform miracles all the while destroying any progress they may have made once our darling little proteges get home.
We drug our kids because we can't/won't control them ourselves. A study done in Ontario (can't remember the institutions name, it's in Alive magazine though) shows that 40% of kids on ridlin are not true ADD or ADDHD. What does that say about society?
oh and HI ELECTRIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah Twila...it's a LOT more than just the teachers. It's mainly parental control, or lack thereof. I am always amused when I take somebody to a schoolboard meeting, when they sit up and look at me in the middle of it, shake their head, and on rare occasion even scream out "You gotta be kidding!". Parents, most of them, have no idea the stuff that is being fed into their children's minds. I dunno how many of you on this site have kids, but I wonder...who hasn't told their kid "Yeah, I'll look at your paper later, the game's on." or "I can't go to the conference because I have to work."? Very legitimate in the latter case, not so in the former. But we all have done it. I stopped when one day my kid came home with a paper which said that evil white American society was to blame for the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I was furious. Since then, I watch what is being taught...and I'm just as busy, just as big a sports fan as anybody else I know. Even so, I STILL get hit with questions like the one my daughter asked me last February about Pearl Harbor. Imagine if I paid no attention at all. The school district where I live, which confiscates $3980 in taxes every year, is supposed to be among the best in the state. And I get questions like that. Yep, it angers me and it angers me even more when people try to defend it and say it needs to stay like it is.
About 40% of the responsibility falls upon the shoulders of the parents. The rest of it needs to be laid upon the school board and the people who dictate curricula. Teachers do what they are paid to do, although in a lot of cases, their own inability to spell and construct sentences is appalling. It's not a trivial matter. This thread started out criticizing Americans for not understanding a lot of basic things about Canada. My point is, with this education system of ours down here, they don't understand a lot of things about anything. But they can put a condom on a banana in a heartbeat. Yep...I AM disgusted with it, but more than that, I'm working to change it. It's gonna take a lot more than me and a lot of time, but it's our kids...and I think they are worth the effort.
"We hear about the prayer in the classroom issues, something you've supported in the past, ..."
That is nothing less than a bald-faced fucking lie Blair! I have NEVER supported prayer in school at any time, and you know that. Playing to an audience of people who don't know me that well and I guess you think you can get a little bolder, a little ballsier with your lies eh? School is a place to learn. Home or church is a place to pray. Recognize those words Blair? You should. You've seen them under my name at Gripe and at Molson more than once. Really scares you that I'm here doesn't it? You must know that your ability to lie without consequence is coming to an end. Sorry for you.
Now, as for the other lies you tell in your latest "masterpiece"... Your test scores in Canada are only marginally better than ours Blair. That means that they are higher but almost insignificantly so. What could be the cause of this do you think? Are there ghettoes in Canada? Nope. Are there barrios in Canada? Nope. Are there poor neighborhoods as a rule in every big city in Canada? Not really, not like what is here. There are more Spanish-speaking immigrants in this country than there are PEOPLE in all of Canada. They keep getting confusing signals from government where they don't know if they should learn English or the rest of us will be forced to learn Spanish, and in the meantime, they don't learn much of anything. I'm NOT making excuses...I don't WANT to make excuses. What I want to do is to get the left, the right and every other ideology, including the fundamentalist Christians, OUT of the education system forever. I want kids to learn, to be able to communicate amongst themselves and the rest of the world, to compete with Chu Lai from Taiwan, with Gabor from Hungary, with Franz from Germany and with Hideo from Japan in a world marketplace for jobs. As things are going, Americans (and Canadians too, don't shit yourself) are setting themselves up to be landscapers and 7/11 clerks in the future. The education system changed in the last 30 years and what is happening ever since is NOT working.
Why do I say this? Well because 30 years ago we did not graduate students who couldn't read on a 3rd grade level. We are now. 30 years ago we did not graduate students who couldn't do basic mathematics such as add, subtract, or multiply. We do now. You think that's ok, because calculators can do all that stuff right? Wrong! Put the wrong numbers in there and you get garbage. Someone with the basic ability to add, subtract or multiply can spot a problem quickly. Calculators are great if you are doing something relatively complex, but multiplying 4 times 9 is hardly a complex function...unless you are from a graduating class after 1980 at least.
This isn't about ideology for me. I realize that it is for YOU because there are certain things your side gains from having dumber kids graduate from high school. In the end we will all suffer though and I'm not going to idly stand by and watch that happen. To whatever extent Reagan or Bush are responsible for the state of public education, I hold them accountable. In reality, as I have said over and over again...it is a grassroots issue, commandeered by the NEA (teachers union in the US) and IGNORED by parents everywhere. If you ignore your home it will fall apart brick by brick. If you ignore your yard, it will grow wildly and look like hell. Ignore your car and it will breakdown. Well, we've ignored our kids for far too long now...and we are reaping what we sow. You, who have no kids and not much post-secondary education, are typical of the reason it is happening I believe, but no where near the biggest part of the problem. Just a loud mouth in the crowd who takes pleasure in the ultimate destruction of the "establishment" and an annoyance. The lion's share of the blame is on every parent who ignores his kids, thinks that the school system, as Twila said, is your tax-paid babysitter, and that somehow the kids will magically arrive at adulthood with a full set of values and beliefs that are acceptable to us. They are gonna have them alright...and people who don't think that's bad are pretty ignorant indeed.
"What there has been very little of is Americans showing up not to discuss things, but tell us all how stupid Canadians are. Thanks for bringing that to the site." I've never said that Canadians are stupid Blair. Much as I honestly don't like you personally, I don't even think that YOU are stupid. If you were, I'd probably be a lot more tolerant of you. You aren't stupid at all...you just think everyone else is, and that's where you get your feet tangled up in your underwear when you run across someone who isn't quite as radically whacked-out as you are. Canadians aren't stupid at all. Neither are most Americans. Now if your definition of "stupid" is "doesn't agree with Blair" then I think we can all be proud to claim stupidity.
Quote:
Well, I don't care to be here anyway...so have at it.
So then why are you here?
That is a typical Blairism right there. Post things half-way, out of context, and use half-truth. Beautiful, absolutely splendid example of how you think sir! Thanks! For those too lazy to scroll up, what the thing REALLY said was that if the web administrator didn't want differing opinions, only clones of each other, I don't care to be here anyway. Pretty different in context from what you posted, don't you think? Sure it is. Very, very typical of the way you do things and what makes me not trust you if you said the sky was blue. Nice job Rev!
Keep the discussion on an adult level Blair, stop the Clintonesque lying and warped fantasizing and you'll have no reason to wish I weren't here. I don't know that you are capable of it, but in the event you are, try it and see how things go. Keep posting lies, and you can count on me being right there to correct you. Your choice man...
"Didn't you know Canada was a Bi-lingual country?"
One of the great myths of Canada perpetuated by those who foolishly believe it.
I for one actually believe it, or else my two little girls wouldn't be going to french immersion school in Regina Saskatchewan.
Official bilingualism is one of the stupidest things about this country, there's no reason anyone outside of Quebec needs to learn French {and 17th century gutter French at that} nor should they be punished {by being barred from many official positions} for not learning it.
This is coming from someone who grew up in a French speaking household and holds dual French citizenship.
"Rush Limbaugh could post on this site, as long as he didn't make vicious personal attacks,"
Now how the HELL would that work???
And what if my children would like to leave the west one day and live in Quebec, Ottawa, New Brunswick, parts of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and all other provinces/territories? Are you saying that I'm foolish for teaching them Canada's other language?
