YankGreat... Get a clue, Canadians are the best friends we have on the planet. Yes, we may be a little worried about terrorist crossing our border but the bald truth is many more just fly in direct to the U.S. because we are too business-greedy to set up real security. Instead we take fingernail files away from old women - just insane.

We have a little problem with Canada because they are more lax on marijuana, but we are more lax on guns. These are not hair-on-fire issues, but should be attended to co-operatively.

Just think about really trusting Canadians with a totally open border. It would be in the interest of both countries. The terrorist caught us all off guard... and we will all raise our guard.

We do need most excellent identification, drivers licenses are not suitable anymore. We will get there.

BTW - on 9-11, when we had to get all of our planes out of the air, many landed in Canada on very short notice. Thank you Canada!
Awesome post!

Oh, the Canadians are the best friends we have on the planet huh? So those friends use Anti-Americanism as a tool to get votes on the election(Thank you so much, Cretien and Martin!)?
Are those friends cooperative on the missile defense system? What about the Iraq war, what is Canada doing for the Iraqi citizens?

Guns are allowed to use for your own self-defense, in the United States. But marijuana is not legalized. neither in Canada or the U.S. But some Canadian politicians are trying to legalize the carry of marijuana, and now don't you think this is ridiculous? And actually, Canada is lax on guns and marijuana both.

Really trusting Canadians with a totally open border? Are you dreaming or what?

And about the airplanes, I would say Canada did a right thing there, but it would be pretty funny if Canada said no to those airplanes. Besides, I'm sure there were Canadians on those landed airplanes as well, so well?

But still I would say Canada did a right thing. Not gonna deny it.

Okay Yank. So we're not doing anything in Afghanistan, huh?

And the flu vaccine you get from us........Meh. No biggie.

And why not trust us? We're not a threat.

And it seems that you are one of the many Americans who has forgotten that Iraq was about WMD's. We tried to warn you, like a good friend would, but you acted childishly. Read a book, our gun lawsa are pretty ridiculous in some cases.

And the Dutch seem to be doing fine with pot. So what's the big deal?

You're welcome for all the free hydro, water, wood, gas and oil we've given you over the years.

And you're welcome for not even thanking us for our help with 9/11. You thanked everyone except us. Us, who opened our homes to complete strangers in a time of need, like a good friend would.

You're welcome America, even though you've never said thank you....

Well I have a passport because I love to travel, but this business of an identity card or passport will scare tourists off from visting the other country, and that will rub both ways, not just for us Canucks. I don't think I would get an identity card but I will renew my passport when it runs out in 2010.

I know friends, family members and even my girlfriend are thinking about just staying in Canada once that law goes into effect.

I don't know about anywhere else but it is a bit of a pain in the ass in Edmonton. You have to fill out all your documents, run around and get a professional (lawyer, doctor, engineer, etc) to verify your pics, take it all in and stand in line for an hour during a weekday (bye bye lunch hour) and then shell out $85. That's assuming they like your photos. If they don't, you have to run out and get them re-done and waste more time (that happened to me). The one good thing they've done to make it easier is that the passport is couriered to your home address, eliminating a 2nd trip to the passport office. So between cost and time hassle, a lot of people likely won't bother.

I guess we've all been spoiled by our good relations and lack of terrorism in North America. My guess is that people will come around eventually, but it will be a year or two before it becomes commonplace to have a passport or identity card.

If you knew anything about Canada, you would realise that we are only really anti-American when you guys are being assholes. Like you are now.

Lax compared to what???

I don't think the majority of Canadians want a wide open border. At least not until America brings its gun laws in line with those of the Great White North, eh.

Aw gee, I can't tell you how much that means to all us Canucks. To get recognition from an upstanding, well versed individual like yourself. Thanks.

Now how do you feel about Canadas actions when New Orleans was sinking? How about our troops contribution in Afghanistan?

VitaminC @ Mon Apr 03, 2006 12:56 pm

Don't dis-honour our troops by saying we sent them to Afghanistan to horse trade for appreciation (softwood lumber) from the Americans.....

We did it for ourselves and for Afghanistan.....Hell if the Anti-Americans (read: Bush supporters tearing apart America) start thanking us for it we should ask ourselves if we're really doing the right thing......

George Bush is the #1 Anti-American in the world...

You obviously have no clue about Canada or Canadians...

Maybe the next time a major disaster hits the USA, we'll sit back and then you can use this holier than thou tone. But we've been there for you so many times in the past decade, if we didn't you might actually notice.

Let's do a little check list...

40 years of Cold War - Check!

1990-91 Gulf War - Check!

9/11 - Check!

Afghanistan - Check!

Iraq - Check! (We told you not to bother with that retard Saddam, but you didn't listen. Then we offered up the Canadian Compromise. Still not good enough for Bush the Warmonger. We are also helping train Iraqi police and army units in Jordan. We also pledged hundreds of millions for re-construction in Iraq).

Katrina - Check! Hell, the first rescue team to reach one of the parishes in New Orleans was from Vancouver. But we also sent navy ships, choppers and tons of supplies, as well as plenty of ca$h.

The next time - Check!

The time after that - Check!

Why? Because that is what good neighbours do!

We might bitch and moan about billions of dollars a bogus US law is stealing from Canadian lumber producers, but when you REALLY need us, we're there for you! Just like I'm sure you would be for us if we got hit by a comet or had a massive earthquake or whatever.

BluesBud @ Mon Apr 03, 2006 5:07 pm

I don't travel down there that much. I used to to go skiing in vermont when I lived in Montreal. I can't be bothered to get a passport for a day or weekend of skiing. I will spend my fund in canada. We are all better of that way anyhow.

Streaker @ Mon Apr 03, 2006 5:25 pm

I've done the skiing in Vermont thing, too. No way I'm going to the trouble of getting a passport just to go skiing, there's always the Laurentians.

When I do make plans to next go to the US, I'll get a passport - it isn't an unreasonable requirement.

Bodah @ Mon Apr 03, 2006 5:38 pm

Im sure politicians on both sides of the border will agree the worst thing we can do each others economy, is require official documentation. passport.

The white shirts are still talking this one out,

Someone was asking how long a Canadian passport is good for? its good for 5 years.

hamiltonguyo @ Mon Apr 03, 2006 6:05 pm

We should do the whole EU semi-common passport thing...

Us and the States

and mayby UK AUS and NZ

UK passport holders would have it good

easy travel to europe and the anglosphere
