I was just wondering how many of you planned on fewer trips to the US after the new laws come into play, requiring Canadians to carry passports when entering the States. If a new identity card is offered would you apply for one to allow travel with less hassle?
If I can avoid it I will.
My wife was thinking about going to the state this summer to visite some friend and now she is not so sure anymore
I don't travel there very often anyway because there is just far too much about Canada which is awesome to find the time to visit the US . The only thing missing here is an economy where you can earn earn a living doing almost anything you can think of even if its stupid like showing kids how to fly radio control planes and such .
We always travelled through the Northern States when we drove to Southern Ontario for holidays, because it was quicker. Looks like we'll be making less trips or we'll have to purchase passports or the new identity cards!
Nope I hardly go to the states
It would though If I did
Do American Passport holders get special privilages going into the US compared to other passport holders?
I know in the EU EU passport holders get a quick line.
People like my dad have used his British(therefore EU) passport to get through faster and find cars and such for us. Even with just one person going through fast it is faster.
I predict that a path will be cleared for Canadians. Remember, we Americans were getting battered by some of your Canadian politicians. Harper seems to be someone we can talk to. O.K., some American politicians were a little impolite also.
The 2010 Winter Olympics will create a lot of traffic from the U.S.. The demand for border traffic will increase dramatically, not decrease. We Americans need to learn a lesson in trusting Canadians totally and Canadians need to work closely on security and drug running issues with Americans (which is probably already happening).
What we need is solid identification that is difficult to forge. I think we can work that out. Tightening the border is the wrong direction to go.
I usually don't travel much anyway, so it's not going to affect me much anyway. Even if I did go, my passport is up to date, so it's not worry for me.
I can definatly see how this will stop many people from traveling to nearby states.
Myself, I like to travel so will have a passport at all time anyway, not for going to the US though. But I have it if I do.
I agree it will stop alot of people from going to nearby states unless there is some real urgency
Just curious, how difficult is it to get a passport in Canada? I know here in the states its just a matter of sending a copy of your birth certificate, getting some pics taken, and filling out a little paperwork. Fairly quick and painless and its good for 10 years.
At least this doesnt go into effect until next year. Maybe it will be repealed by then.
