Iran-Contra Affair

Yeah, do you see a bunch of Americans running over there to colonize it? It's called removing the dictator and letting the countries be ruled by democracies now.
Here we go again.....sheesh. Seems like a default arguement to excuse atrocities for the selection of who gets the spun up ideals of American "freedom, liberty and democracy" when in reality it has nothing to do with it:
IRAN 1953 Command Operation
CIA overthrows democracyleftist prime minister, Mohammed Mossadegh, installs Shah monarchy/dictatorship.The U.S. returned in force to the Middle East in 1980, after the Shi'ite Muslim revolution in Iran against Shah Pahlevi's pro-U.S. dictatorship.
INDONESIA l965 Command operation
1 Million killed in CIA-assisted army coup. 750,000 political prisoners, uncounted thousands of whom died of malnutrition and untreated illness.Western governments, including the U.S., knew from intelligence sources as early as July l998, that the Indonesian military was working with recruited armed militias to destroy the impending
independence referendum. Nonetheless, the U.S. was providing training to the Indonesian Air Force as recently as summer 1999, and U.S. Secretary of Defense William Cohen reported that only a week before the August 1999 referendum U.S. and Indonesian military personnel were conducting joint operations
CHILE 1973 Command operation CIA-backed coup ousts
elected marxist president. The ruthless dictator Pinochet was installed.
Central America during the 1980s, when the Reagan administration strongly backed the pro-U.S. regime in El Salvador, and right-wing exile forces fighting the new leftist Sandinista government in Nicaragua. Rightist death squads slaughtered Salvadoran civilians who questioned the concentration of power and wealth in a few hands. CIA-trained Nicaraguan Contra rebels launched terrorist attacks against civilian clinics and schools run by the Sandinista government, and mined Nicaraguan harbors. U.S. troops also invaded the island nation of Grenada in 1983, to oust a new military regime, attacking Cuban civilian workers (even though Cuba had backed the leftist government deposed in the coup), and "accidentally" bombing a hospital
1987 – 1994
American-supported State Terrorism of the Haitian People
I'm sure I could go on, there's plenty more.....
If the average right wing American woke up from their spun up pipe dreams maybe there would be some intelligent debate on issues of democracy, in the end, a true exercise and protection of democracy within and outside their own country. Until then, America will always be viewed as hypocritical,
discrediting themselves with their own words, attitudes, and actions.

This does not prove that Reagan was behind killing KURDISH PEOPLE. Or we can say according to your theory Clinton was behind the starving of millions of N Koreans because he supported Kim Jong Mentally Il.

Since I have joined this forum I keep hearing how Canada is more free than the US. I would like to hear how it is more free.
I saw somewhere that Canada ranks higher than the US on Human Rights at home, Canada getting about 98% and the US only getting 90%.
What let the US down was its large prison population (despite suppsoedly being the "Land of the Free" and the fact that you are the only "civilised" nation in the world that still has the death penalty.
The UK also ranks higher than the US, at about 96%.

Interesting, but how do you define "rankings". What goes into deciding these numbers, can you elaborate please?
Well, I'm not an expert on these things, but I did read it in a book in the town's main library the other week.
The rankings are based on how well a Government treats its people, and a percentage is given, out of 100. So countries like Iraq had low scores, such as 20%.
But the US was given 90%, because it still has the death penalty, when all other Western, civilised countries don't.
Canada was given about 98%.
The top-ranked country was, obviously, very-clean-no-rubbish-in-the-streets, always-behaving-itself Finland, which got about 99%.
If I can find the website for it, I'll post it here.
Finland always finishes at the very top of these sorts of lists.
For example, Finland has been voted the cleanest country in the world, the most democratic country in the world and the country that has the least corrupt government. It also has the world's freest press.
Arnold Schwarzenegger announced he is going to ask President Bush for help with the budget. What better way to deal with a $38 billion deficit than get advice from a guy that created a $450 billion deficit.
To answer the original question thats the title of this thread, Canada simply doesn't have more freedom than america. We are shafted into watching shitty reality TV series because their so much cheaper that canadian made produce. 30 out of the fourty seven channels I get on cable are american based. Thats not very free when it comes to the TV section of media. We also get shafted into horrible trade deals with the americans, only to be made worst when the americans cheat even more; the softwood lumber dispute, the beef trade thing, that little island and its fishing grounds in the middle of the bay of fundy...
were a slave of america, we givce them cheap recources, they ghive us expensive crap which really isn't even worth the sum of its parts.
Thats my rant. Cheers! ![Beers [BB]](./images/smilies/beers.gif)

Ive said it once and I will say it again USA USA USA , we are everywhere. Even in your TVs lol. Enjoy.
Well I say get the fuck outta my life. I'm sick of seeing pro USA shit all over the place in my own country. would be nice to see a pro canadian thing up here. No, of course not, we must suck up to the basement. Only thing thats pro-canadian is the beer commercials, and atleast they're everywhere. But lots of people just begin to think Canadians are a bunch of drunks after seeing a doezen different I AM CANADIAN buy molsens beer commercials. Most of us are, but atleast were freindly drunks.
No kidding, the local store took down the american flags they had up, (which a lot of stores do to say there american friendly), because the owner said he was tired of watching army/navy commercials all the time. I am a bit confused on this "american media" thing though. Alot of the performers are Canadian, the shows are made in Canada, and we say that they're american??? Same on the radio and in the movies...
Hey Canadian Mind.
Better to go micro brew. now that Molson's been bought out. Molson will go witch's piss soon and you'll have to have a piss bag attached to you every time you want to go out.
I've noticed that there's never any credit to the Canadian city where it's been filmed......?
