Racist will decrees with time, it has a lot to do with the way people were raised i think too. Someone who was raised 40 years was raised in a totally different climate, were racism was tolerated and almost encouraged.

I'd say if anything it's getting worse with time here in Canada, and I think it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

bc_bud bc_bud:
PLEASE NOTE:THIS IS NOT MY OPINION

Racist Canadians usually come from places like British Columbia and Alberta, where they are conservatives and are posing as Canadians when they are really Americans. From what I see, a lot of them want to be much much closer to the US and support conservatives in Canada. They are fake Canadians.

That's just silly.

I blame everything on Liberals.

There is a huge amount of racism on the far right though. Check out the roots of the Reform/Alliance/Conservatives. Now think about some of their proposed policies on immigration and refugees and so on. Think about racial profiling. Think about how they assumed that Arar was a terrorist back when the US first sent him to be tortured.

Not all conservatives are racist, but those that are are pretty damned successful at pushing their agenda.

The Far Right definately though calling the vast majority of Canadian Conservatives or even U.S. Republicans Far Right seems Far Fetched to me.

and yet look at the policies they push.

Racism is everywhere.

Its not as simple as a black/white thing anymore. Its up to the individual to be stronger and look past the teachings of yesterday. Everywhere includes governments. Even the same ones that set laws to provide for those biased against. It wont change until we do. They wont change till we change them.

If you believed everything the media said, than I suppose you would think racism is a bigger problem than it actually is, and you would also believe that only white men are racist, and that no one else is.

But that's if you only take the media's view on it.

As for racial profiling. I am sick of opening the Toronto Sun every morning to read about the murders of usually 3 or 4 black men at the hands of other black men. If we force the cops to stop profiling, though, then that number of 3 or 4 will start becoming 10 or 12 murders of young black men at the hands of other black men.

Might want to try addressing the social problems that arise from poverty rather than just blaming the violence on black people there, Nugga.

Let's just use your train of thought though. The majority of us belong to the human race. Most of Canada's murders are committed by human and they kill humans. All humans must therefore be guilty, or at least worth a close look even if they've done nothing wrong.

Acknowledging the problem, recognizing it is the first step. I would bet most of you are young and with every generation you will see reduced racism (hopefully). I am so glad its gotten so good here in the States. I have moved to several cities and have not seen it at all... its here but they are the minority and many are embarrased now to admit they have a superiority ignorance.

Unfortunatly, I do not see the recognition or acknowledgment in Europe and its a growing problem there. I hope they figure it out!

Well, not that it matters, REV Blair, but being of part African descent, I think I can see the problems going on in my own community, thank you, and while some of it has to do with poverty, a good amount of it has to do with MTV, a defeatist attitude etc. I've been given the same educational opportunities growing up in Toronto as anyone else, yet I decided long ago that I didn't want to partake in thuggery, and that's just what it is.

I think you'd find racism of all kinds a LOT more appearant outside the GTA, especially in Western Canada unfortunately.
