Well, please forgive me, but the US were there too... Ya think I am allowed to say that?

Believe me, in daily life, people don't think about Canada.

You can say whatever you want. This isn't about the US - not sure why you thought to bring that up, but whatever.

No-one said the Dutch thought of Canada on a daily basis... but there are those that still are deeply appreciative.

This TOPIC is about the US...

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
Holyyyy what the fuuuuck? 8O I think i can fairly say I didn't expect such a bitter angry reaction.

Why so much protest?

Fucking retarded, ROTFL

Because I'm sick of it, and if you think it's just because of you, its not. Its because of the great deal of people, on this site and off, who act like this. So you're right this probably wasn't the best topic, but might as well start here.

And it is fucking retarded. Please don't pretend otherwise. Biased hatred of something you barely understand is retarded.

$1:
]Uhh... Well yes and no. For one, yes, Canada does have it's own problems, which is why I suggest we stop caring about America and focus on ourselves? This is why I didn't expect this reaction. It's liek no one understood the point i was clearly getting across here.

We do have our own problems. But whenever anyone points one out, which I've seen you do with crime, "Well its not as bad as the United States" or something stupid. Plus weren't you the one who had the whole list of crimes committed in the US every x seconds?

$1:
And America doesn't have the cultural problems Canada has...

Oh come on, Canada has a massive separatist movement. Canada has Aboriginals actively rebelling against the government every summer. Canadian cities are importing foreign conflicts with its immigrants, just look at the Kurd getting his ass pounded in Alberta by a bunch of asshole Turks.

So what's America's culture problem? Its spreading out too much that whiny Canadians think McDonalds will destroy the world?

$1:
Yeah, that's pure bullshit man. Ghetto's and shit don't count, or what? In-equal distribution of funding for schools, How in some area's of the USA black people are more likely to end up in jail then in college? Not similar to Canada's native situation at all?

Oh jeez that NEVER EVER HAPPENS IN CANADA. No sireee. I mean its not like there's no people living in shit conditions getting shitty education in Canada. Oh wait. You're wrong. Look at the difference in funding between Sinclair Secondary and Anderson CVI in Whitby. How one has a pool and a robotics team while the other had a flooded gym and asbestos, which was only cleaned up recently.

Wait...can't we say that just like the Natives? Living in slum conditions, getting a shitty education, rampant corruption, and oh look, they go to jail alot more than the average Canadian.

$1:
Such sudden violent Pro-American anger, almost as if you were waiting for me to make my own thread just so you can snap on me without being off-topic.

Dear God man, "Pro-American anger?" Please. I'm just sick that you pretend Canada is some holy grail when Canada has the same shitty problems as the USA, if not moreso, but you're too blind and biased to see that because, as you say yourself, Canada is your new religion.

Oh and I'm sorry my typing hurt you. I never knew typing can be violent...

--

You don't get it at all. I love Canada, but people like you with your bullshit ideas about the US is what makes this country bad, not good. Look at this line

"Who cares about their psychotic gun culture, messed up ideological-based society and massive paranoia? Let them destroy their own damn country"

Canada has more guns per capita than the US, Canada has just as many messed up ideologies like the US, and we're just as paranoid. Hell you're proof of it. You're so paranoid of the US that you hate everything about the US. People in this country are so paranoid that they're scared of WalMart and McDonalds because they spread the "evil American cultural Imperialism" or whatever bullshit people say.

I mean, I hate Americans who say stupid shit about Canada, because they don't know Canada like Canadians do, in its immense beauty and richness and history and culture. However Canadians doing the same exact thing, are just as stupid, because they pretend to know the United States, barely even knowing it.

If you don't want to care about the United States, fine, but that's foolish since they are our only neighbour (by land, anyway) and we share a deep and long history. We share a massive infrastructure network that basically did not exist 400 years ago. We share a massive economy that worth 15 TRILLION dollars. We share landmarks, like the Falls and the Great Lakes. Ignoring and not caring about the United States is basically saying you don't care about one half of your entire body.

Brenda I don't think anyone here thinks that Dutch people spend every waking hour thinking about Canada. My understanding was that when people in the Netherlands thought about Canada it was with respect and admiration.

50% of the population is born in another country. Most of the people who survived the war don't live anymore.

Sorry to disappoint you.

Of course we are grateful, but not as grateful as you guys seem to think.

Mr_Canada, it's too bad you think that way. I wish you could see what America really is, but you have your opinion set in stone.

I really do dare anyone to figure out what the American culture is. It's as elusive as WMDs in Iraq.

*chuckles*

Well, same said to Canadian culture. Sadly, eh?

We do have a culture. North America, I mean. It's not based on ethics, and has hundreds of "wings" and separate pieces. But it's there.

Because it's obvious that an American or a Canadian is different from a European, or African, or Asian, Or even Australian, I dare push.

But it's obviously impossible, or at the very least incredibly hard, to define.

It defined as not being able to be defined. It's real easy to identify the European cultures because each is homogenous. Similar to each Asain country(with exceptions) they have there own homogenous culture. Canada and the US are different because we are the muts of the world. We have every culture from throughout the world. You could even say we are the world's culture. :D

I call bullshit on this, Brenda. My parents were in Holland - and not in November - and they were touched at the outpouring of gratitude (for want of a better word) directed at anyone they knew was a Canadian. They were especially awed by the care taken with the cemetaries where Canadian soldiers were buried.

Why would you be in Holland in November?

Of course, come talking to Canadians, especially elderly, oh oh oh we are so grateful.

Go live there for a while, and you will notice, not everybody thinks about Canada, war or Canadians every day.

You can call bullshit on everything you want, but don't you think I know better than you, who has never been there?

Huh? Why would I be in Holland in November?

What does that have to do with anything?

And who the heck said the Dutch thought about Canada every day?

euhhmm, YOU mentioned And not in November.

You guys are asking for eternal gratitude for saving our asses in the war. The US did a great job then too. I cannot say that people are sure grateful, but don't think about it that much. In daily life, people don't give a shit. When you mention Canada, (like I said before) not the first thought is WAR! GRATITUDE. The first thought is Cold, Clubbed baby seals, Igloos.

Sorry. Life sucks when the truth is hard.

If you think we are asking for eternal gratitude than you've obviously misread some posts somewhere, and if the first thought about Canada is cold, clubbed baby seals and igloos than I have sympathies for the ignorance of the Dutch people.

Yes, I mentioned it wasn't November because you seemed to be of the opinion that that's when the Dutch showed their appreciation for Canada. I was pointing out that that wasn't the case.

We're asking for eternal gratitude? huh. I could swear we were showing a little awe that after all these years the Dutch still remember and care.

Apparently we were wrong, because you quite obviously speak for the Dutch.

$1:
Sorry. Life sucks when the truth is hard.

Your truth isn't the truth.

First of all, I never metioned November. I mentioned May.

Yes, when you look for it, you will find it.

Go visit Holland, ask around what the first thoughts are about Canada. My truth is more truth about this matter than your truth. At least I can speak from my own experience, with parents who survived the war.

So, to go back to the topic, what is your first thought about Holland?

Lemme guess... War. Talking about ignorance. Windmills. They hardly exist anymore. Tulips. They are originally from Turkey.

Anything else?

Oh, and what about the US? That was what the topic was all about...

RUEZ @ Sun May 25, 2008 10:38 pm

Canada is the same. We have no culture, except a few quirks...

It's too bad you feel that way. Luckily many do not.

My first thought about the Netherlands is about Dykes and land reclamation. I know that they've been dealing with that for some time. And yes windmills would come to mind as well because they are entrenched in the history.
