Censorship?
I think he thought he owned all IRC chats everywhere and somebody crowned him king.
I agree that the mods should be a little more transparent and we probably should have some more defined rules, but it all comes down to time.
The mods already donate thier time and I don't feel right asking them to take more time to PM every infraction and post to the public on every action they take, this all takes time.
And as far as rules, we have rule framework, we could make the ruleset 100 pages long with every single thing layed out, but there still would be times when the rules would be bent or ignored. It would take too much time to enfore all the rules 100% of the time and half the people here would have been banned already for personal attacks.
I think we have to do something though. Ruez's post in question was a personal attack to a new member, that was not needed, but rather than delete it why not edit it out and replace it with the "moderator blue text", something like:
moderated for personal attack - Canadaka
The best tool for moderation is the report this post button, because mods can't be online all the time and be everywhere. This allows the forum to semi police itself, of corse its still a mod that decideds if the reported post should be dealt with.
I will also ask the mods to just lock threads that turn into flame fests rather than delete them to the "topic graveyard". It seems people like to be able to look at the downward spiral.
Or the thread could be locked and moved to a new topic graveyard that members would be able to see and we could call it "Flaming Dumpster". So there still able to be accessed, but keeps the crap out of the main forums.

Is it possible to make that section viewable only to members with at least a certain number of posts? I've seen that on another board, and I think it's a good idea.
how about 10216..... Just joking.
Think it's a good idea.

I'd like to clarify that my insult towards the new member came about directly as a result of him insulting me first because I said Calgary sucks. My telling him to fornicate himself may have been extremely rude but as I stated before I and others have done it before no problem. I was also informed that calling him a noob was inapropriate.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
I've only been censored once on CKA.... but now that I think about it, it may have been deserved...
It was an insult to Avro... Or Abbas... After he was banned, I can't remember which one. I was a little pissed off at one of them. I forget which...
The post was replaced with "Never again!".
Eh. *shrug* It was rude so I guess it was kinda deserved...

Canadaka, I read your thread about the forum rules. Can we assume that these rules will now be enforced across the board instead of selectively like they have been so far? I was told that calling a new member a noob was not acceptable and yet if you search the forums you will find many, many instances of members calling new members a noob. To my knowledge I am the first person to be told this is unnaceptable. I am also unaware of many other members being censored for cursing. Again if you do a search you will find many threads some from me that include cursing directed at another member. I am also aware of threads with personal attacks directed at me yet nothing was done in those as well.
I like the new rules. Good, Basic, and necessary.
Of course, this meaning starting NOW right? Like youa rn't goign to go around pegging off people who've committed the said crimes like yesterday?
Or the past year?
Because by these rules, I've broken everything in there... Language, Feeding Trolls, Personal Attacks, Off-Topicness...
I guess I'm going to have to put 85 pages in the Leafs Nation Thread behind me...
And no more "Fuckign" for me too,

If you want to see a good example of some Sewer Mouth that would make Domi's ranting look pathetic, check out the Leafs Nation thread...
I've raised one hell of a place,

Every page, I guarantee you'll find a curse. I GUARANTEE IT.
Especially with that evad54 troller....
You'll find most of all the profanity in the thread by me....
*cough*
What? Leaf Games get me pumped,
Rules are not applied selectivy or to certain people intentionaly, its a matter of time what a mod happens to see and certain people draw more attention to themselfs.
Nothing can be done across the board, moderators cannot spend 24 hours a day checking every single post. If you want to see more things dealt with that were directed towards you then use the report this post feature. And saying that someone else was able to get away with something makes it somehow unfair that you didn't is not a valid excuse.
Cursing is not directly a rule violation, but used in a personal attack it can be. And calling someone a noob is not against the rules, I think it was the other part of your remark that was the problem, not that.
And I am very confident that the moderators here do not let personal political bias rule there actions. And the mods are from both sides of the political spectrums.
And yes there have been lots of personal attacks in the past, other from moderators not seeing it or deciding that it is not worth dealing with, some things are accepted, it keeps things lively. Like I have already said, it would be almost impossible to clamp down on every single infringment and half the people here would already have 3 strikes. But is that what people want? a police state forum, i don't think so, if they did they we would be flooded with tons of reported posts a day, but we are not. I am all for as open forum as possible.

Yes these rules are the new forum rules as of now, but they really ar not very different than the old ones, just a little clearer and fleshed out.
You past actions will not be re-visited.
And swearing is not against the rules, over usage is just discouraged. This isn't a forum for elementry school kids.

Okay, good.
*relaxes*
I'd be in the court thing otherwise and I doubt the CKA Society would want to bail me out,

Don't underestimate the CKA society though! I would (partially) bail you out

I never said that. I'm just trying to understand why so many can get away with something and then suddenly it becomes a problem.

The PM I got from the Mod said he was "troubled" by me calling the new member a noob. Talk about PC maybe we should have a list of words we can't use here.

I'll tell you what since that's what's happened to me, I'll report every instance of personal attacks and cursing I see from now on. FYI to anyone reading this. Don't tell another member to go fuck themselves and certainly don't call them a Noob. That seems to set the mods off.
Brenda @ Mon Apr 02, 2007 2:23 am
Call me stupid, or maybe blonde, but what is "a noob"? I've seen it as "n00b" also, but what does it mean?

A person who is new to something. Someone who has just recently signed up to the forum. We were all noobs once.
