Canada Kicks Ass
Censorship?

What's the deal? In the last week I've noticed two instances of blatant censorship in this forum.

In the first, a particular post in one thread was deleted, but no other action was taken against the author. I would think that if a post was bad enough to warrant its deletion, then that should be bad enough for at least some sort of temporary ban.

In the second, today an entire thread was deleted. Not locked, deleted entirely. I don't know if I missed something, but it seemed par for the course around here.

What gives?

I must have missed this, but I'm sure (or at least I hope) there was a good reason for this.

First of all I have no idea which post you are talking about specifically but if that's in fact what happened, the offending poster may have also got a PM warning him about it. That wouldn't be made public so you naturally would know how it was handled.
As far as threads being delete, it's not something we do either. We first lock them down then move them to the topic graveyard. Usually we just lock them down and let them die where they are. Other than that if a thread disappears it's usually a glitch with the site. I've heard some of the newsbot threads vanish from time to time but it apparently because of an activity level that's built into the sites working system. You'll also hear of people making posts and the posts going to the middle of the thread instead of the end.
Hope that helps.

Okay, I'll accept that.

Here's a link to a post in the deleted thread:

http://www.canadaka.net/modules.php?nam ... 540#556540

It wasn't a newsbot thread, and as far as I could see, there weren't any posts going to the middle or anything. The whole thread is gone, and my posts in it don't show up in my profile. I've got some of the pages in my history though and that's where that url came from.

Thanks for your input.

I put a thread into the topic graveyard this morning because it was nothing but a flame war. No debating, no discussion, just an excuse to personal attack and name call.

So why not just lock it?

Cause I don't leave crap like that up on the forum and the people involved should get the hint when the topic goes to the graveyard.

A number of the threads I initiated have suddenly disappeared. Though I have no doubt that many see this as a positive development it is that very type of thinking we must be eternally vigilant against, even on an internet forum.

What gives?

I see that my thread has been merged with another thread of similar issue. Is there no way that a moderator can inform that the threads have been merged?

BartSimpson @ Fri Mar 30, 2007 9:38 pm

Donny Brasco noted that some of his stuff disappeared, as well.

Any mods care to comment?

It may be simply the server issues we've been seeing wiping out your threads the same as they have a few of my posts today.

What gives indeed.

Arctic_Menace @ Fri Mar 30, 2007 10:53 pm

I've noticed some of my posts getting either deleted or moved. :?

Rather odd. Wonder if it's Consti or Ruserious messing with us.

Canadaka @ Fri Mar 30, 2007 11:48 pm

I have deleted or moved nothing recently, but some of the mods might, what are the titles of the topics?

If they were trashed, i'm sure it was for good reason.

Seagram @ Sat Mar 31, 2007 1:06 am

I would like to know what this site's criteria is for censoring. :)

RUEZ @ Sun Apr 01, 2007 12:23 am

I've recently had a post deleted. Although it was rude it wasn't anything that I or many others haven't posted before.

RUEZ @ Sun Apr 01, 2007 12:32 am

lily lily:
Did you get a PM warning you about it, RUEZ?

BartSimpson BartSimpson:

Apparently not.
No I received no PM about my post, one minute it was there the next it wasn't.
