The US isn't even the largest military in the world what makes the US so much better than militaries like China, Korea, Russia that are huge?? and we won't even get into the fact that Canadian soldiers are the most highly trained and highly skilled in the world but lack the numbers which is in the process of getting larger now, it's like you're afraid to actually read a book and see for yourself that the US Isn't the king of the world, and it just pisses off the rest of the world. Ummm, are you kidding? Let's put aside the fact that the US spends more than the rest of the world combined on military. I'd say we have whoever faces us beat. Especially on our turf.
I'm usually not the one to be arrogant but this is a stupid comment. The Korean military is a joke so I won't even waste my time on them. The Chinese, although modernizing, are still far beyond the US in technology; especially in aviation. Russia's military has degraded tremendously since the collapse of the Sovet Union. They don't have enough money to keep their forces modernized let alone launch a military attack on the US.
Also, the US has the 2nd largest military right behind China. Size in this case doesn't really matter. Speed and mobility is what the military is trying to achieve. China has greatly reduced its military size to do this themselves and the US has already taken the lead. We've seen this in Iraq with roughly 160,000 troops compared to a much larger force in the first gulf war.
The US is leading everyone else in speed and mobility with the developement of the future combat system.

Which nation has anything comparable to the F-22, B-2, Nimitz class carrier, and the emerging ddx destroyers? Also, which nation has a modern tank force the size of the US'? Or Navy? Or Air Force? Also, there's no doubt Canadian troops are very skilled. But, the size of the US Marines and Special Forces is what? 3 times Canada's army?
I pity the fool that tries to invaded invade the US, I really do.
Anyways, I don't see the military as America's best treasure but it is currently the most powerful.

yeah forgot about them. OH and did you catch that Mexico would be offended if we built the wall along the border like congress is thinking about doing. OMG Why do we care what others think when we are doing something in our own country that we preceive will protect ourselfs. I could see an up roar if we started up a mexican internment camp or something but good lord we are just talking about trying to make it harder for Mexican's to cross over illegaly. One begins to think Foxx has no other issue he can run on in Mexico and win an election with.

stratos man, you have got to stop smoking that second grade shit you have down there, what makes you think that the US is so powerful?? I'm not on my so called "high horse" I'm trying to explain to a unintelligent person that it doesn't matter what flag stands on a piece of land, it can be conquered with force. You say that 70% of the population would stand up, please show me where your figures come from, it's a far cry to say it on a Canadians website that you'd stand up to foreign troops than to actually do it when the streets are invaded, you'd be just like the rest of your population evacuating the area and waiting it out, because unlike the US's thinking, you're just a normal country with normal people (well slightly). In any war the civilians in the area evacuate except for the suicidal's that want to try and fight and will eventually be killed. I realize that Canada and the US probably, in our life time anyway, will never be over run, because each country will stand up for the other but I'm just trying to explain that if someone wanted to put in the effort it could be done. I'm not anti-american but I am a fan of common sense and I do respect the power of a countries military, and hearing you talk like the US has a invisible shield and is littered with super-human type people all over the country is just fucking retarded, I'm sure everyone else reads your posts and is thinking the same thing. I'm not trying to be mean to you at all, I'm just trying to get you to understand common sense.

I would not put all your faith in technology. It still comes down to the man/woman on the ground behind the rifle that takes and holds the ground. The US may be the most modern military force in the world but that hasn't helped them defeat the insurgencies in both Afghanistan or Iraq now has it.

And the Generals now say that they do not have enough troops and are requesting more from the Pentagon, but war minister Rummy doesn't have the troops to deploy, because the US armed forces are overextended.

Sorry Meaden, you're wrong. Right now the US is the worlds only superpower and there is not a country out there who could invade and overtake them! None, zero, zilch! In fact there is no country that could even get close to them via sea due to the sheer size and firepower of the US navy.
By the way, that's not flag waving or rah-rahing, it's just a fact of life. I am a member of the CF and have worked with the Americans on dozens of occasions(as well as Brits, Aussies, Germans, Dutch, French, get the picture) and nobody can touch the Americans on equipment (numbers, not quality ie. Leopard 2 tank) or on troop movement. Don't let your obvious anti-American attitude attempt to change the fact that the US could not be invaded and occupied by any army out there today.
