The Chinese, although modernizing, are still far beyond the US in technology; especially in aviation. Russia's military has degraded tremendously since the collapse of the Sovet Union. They don't have enough money to keep their forces modernized let alone launch a military attack on the US.
I would not put all your faith in technology. It still comes down to the man/woman on the ground behind the rifle that takes and holds the ground. The US may be the most modern military force in the world but that hasn't helped them defeat the insurgencies in both Afghanistan or Iraq now has it.

We've seen this in Iraq with roughly 160,000 troops compared to a much larger force in the first gulf war.
And the Generals now say that they do not have enough troops and are requesting more from the Pentagon, but war minister Rummy doesn't have the troops to deploy, because the US armed forces are overextended.
I think we would be in a bigger shit storm if we didnt have that technology. Why does everyone on this board act as if the US army is so poorly trained?
Besides, a military's role isn't suppose to be a police force. Our military works best in fighting an actual war against another military. Thats how it was structured to do so and its beginning to make the transformation. Also, I can't think of any other military that could do a better job at this point against the insurgency, unless we didn't take into account civilian casualties.
Another thing, had this been a war actually worth fighting there would be more troops to deploy. We just dont want to overstress the troops.
US army has 500,000 active duty troops and 700,000 national guard. US marines have 180,000 with another 40,000 on reserve. Had this war been on our home turf instead you can bet that all of those troops would be deployed.

Really, Lethbridge is getting that bad? From what I've heard on the radio about it, I'd have though it was bigger and more populated and exciting then Medicine Hat. Arn't like, concerts played there every week or so?

well our population IS growing, 3 - 5 yrs ago it was 65,000 not it's something like 80,000 we seem to keep up to the pop of red deer, but the amount of things to do here is slowly declining. it's a head scratcher, i know. ![[huh]](./images/smilies/icon_scratch.gif "huh?"){kind=icon}
there are a few concerts that come our way, Nazareth is playing hte sportsplex, umm i mean the enmax centre (it was sportsplex years ago when i lived here). there is a lot of live local music going on around town, but nothing big. for that you gotta go to calgary.

well our population IS growing, 3 - 5 yrs ago it was 65,000 not it's something like 80,000 we seem to keep up to the pop of red deer, but the amount of things to do here is slowly declining. it's a head scratcher, i know.

I've never been to a concert. My first is going to be the Arrogant Worms who are coming to Medicine Hat in Febuary.

i've seen System of a Down both times they came to the 'Dome, but i was living in calgary at the time. in lethbridge, you can't buy ticketmaster tickets unless you have a credit card, which i don't. there are no physical ticketmaster locations in lethbridge. that sucks because i wanted to go see Bad Religion and Dropkick Murphy's at the dome last month but i couldn't go

Bad Religion? Do you listen to the lyrics?
I didn't even know Bad Religion was still around. They were a favorite of mine back in the early eighties. I was fortunate, we even had Black Flag play one of our high school dances. Oops probably really dating myself here.

of course i listen to the lyrics...they are better thanmost of the lyrics of new songs today. i just ignore the "there is no God" lyrics. the rest of them are great.

Truthfully no nation could come in and take over the USA half the country would rise up with the weapons we are allowed to have via our constitution and fight to kick out anyone dumb enough to invade us.
