Movement is good. Keep working out remember the physical standards are only a minimum.

ginger @ Wed Sep 15, 2010 2:29 pm

Thanks. I keep going to the gym. I can do the minimum, but I still want to work at it.

I was given the contact info of the guy who is now in charge of my file. I was thinking of giving him a call in the next day or two, although it may be a little early since he would have just received it. He'll probably sense my desperation.

Chumley @ Wed Sep 15, 2010 3:13 pm

If they gave you his contact information he is expecting your call.
Like Fawkes said, you keep yourself on thier radar.
It's not desperation, it's keen interest.
Even if it is desperation, play it as interest.

ginger @ Wed Sep 15, 2010 4:38 pm

True. I was given the contact info since, during my interview, I was told that if I was successful, I would be informed by the end of the month. However, if I was not successful, I would hear nothing. So it was more to inquire if there was bad news, from what I gathered. Regardless, I will give him a call.

I'm on the merit list! Not sure what exactly that means, but I have been passed on to the merit list, and now I wait.

Guy_Fawkes @ Sat Sep 18, 2010 10:06 am

It means you're in the line to get put on course, once they are ready to course load you they will call you and ask if you want to go. How long that will take is anyone's guess since there are some people who will merit higher than you. Regardless you should still call them bi weekly so they will keep your name in mind.

ginger @ Sun Sep 19, 2010 9:20 am

Well I just spoke with my file manager in person the other day, so I may hold off on actually calling for another week or so.

There are a few documents that I still need to deal with - they need another copy of my University transcript that actually confirms that I graduated, so that will take a couple of business days to arrive in the mail. Hopefully the wait for that won't be detrimental.

SprCForr @ Sun Sep 19, 2010 10:04 am

It shouldn't hurt anything at all. Sounds like everything is falling into place. Good for you. Needing another copy of something or another is pretty routine. Calling the file mgr in a few days to confirm the transcript arrived won't hurt.

Remember, the pain when you puke from doing wind sprints in the parking lot is weakness leaving the body!

ginger @ Thu Sep 23, 2010 10:42 am

Well, I have my transcript in as requested, and apparently all is in, and now all I can do is wait.

Sounds like your file is flying through. Apply to the RCMP in Central region if you want to learn patience lol. Year and a half and just a 1/3 of the way through for me, and this is normal. Looks like I should have applied to be an MP but might be a bit old to do boot camp again, although I have to admit showing up the 20 year olds in the police physical abilities assessments I've done was gratifying but not sure I could keep that up for 10 weeks lol.

Enjoy the wait time as you last vestiges of civilian life, you'll be getting fitted for you monkey suit before you know it.

ginger @ Sat Sep 25, 2010 9:30 am

Thanks Benn! I hope so. Anyway, I've heard that for many services, 2011 and 2012 are going to be big recruiting years for policing, so maybe that will speed things up for you. Ottawa Police, for instance, was focusing more on civilian hires in 2010, but will pick it up for uniform recruiting in the coming years.

EyeBrock @ Sat Sep 25, 2010 11:25 am

All the Ontario Services are recruiting. Three classes a year go through OPC. The OPP are cutting back so Dalton can spend the money on e-health etc.

ginger @ Sat Sep 25, 2010 8:43 pm

Not necessarily - Ottawa Police sent only 11 for September, a few were direct entry, and December looks to be even smaller. Toronto is doing well sending about 180. It just depends which service.

EyeBrock @ Sat Sep 25, 2010 8:51 pm

Ottawa is too close to the Feds to be a real measure. The rest of the province is on full-on recruit mode. I'm not trying to argue.

Benn @ Sun Sep 26, 2010 9:47 am

2010 was a bad year for applicants to most services east of Manitoba (Edmonton was still pumping out 3 classes per year) but the thing is the need to replace retiring boomers is still there so governments can only hold off recruiting those replacements for so long. Municipal elections and such always help as well and it's the time of year for that in many places. Winnipeg's mayor spouted off about hiring 56 new spots next year. Political move naturally but if he can fit all those new spots in January's class he's got my vote
