I wonder if cops get the same questionaire.

The American Army prides itself on Always defending the American people from harm.
The Police prides itself on stopping people from committing crimes.
There's a difference.
What situation would the US army be called out with arms, without the intent of stopping crime?

Why must people find loop holes in my phrases? Must I state everything so that ever possibility for a comeback is covered? Can't things just you know speak for themselves?
The American Police prides itself on stopping American people from committing crimes.
The police mainly deal with the instability of it's nation's people... And their's always debate on how they handle that.
Your bias is showing in your posts. I'll chaulk it up to your age.

Your statement said "there's the difference." My point was that if the army was called out with arms it's job would be an extension of the police force, therefore the same job and no different.

Then I see your point.
My point was that even though it is an extension, their main goals are in much different sectors. The Army is Defending/Fighting in the name of the Nation, the Police is the Nation's way of bringing people to justice within their own nation (most of the time). The army is to deal with war zones and political enemies. The police is to deal with street shootings and stopping/arresting criminals...
I think what you're trying to say is that the police are for domestic issues and the armed forces are for national situations. While that is it's typical use, there's plenty of history that's seen the armed forces used for domestic trouble. Always has been......... and always will be.

If the US wants to shoot its own citizens they would probably just contract Blackwater "security contractors". They have gotten away with a lot of questionable shootings in Iraq. Sateside, DHS used them to help with Katrina, where they acted as law enforcement in the disaster stricken areas. They claim they got into a firefight with gangbangers, but there were no official reports filed. There are however numerous examples where these contractors have actually manhandled the US military overseas. In 06, in the Baghdad Green Zone an SUV driven by Blackwater operatives crashed into a U.S. Army Humvee. Blackwater guards disarmed the Army soldiers and forced them to lie on the ground at gunpoint until they could disentangle their SUV from the wreck. With a worforce in excess of 20,000 comprised of special forces types from around the world, equipped with the weapons, armed aircraft, and armoured vehicles to take down small countries, they swear allegiance to no one. I guess you could say having the option to contract these guys gives any government plausible deniability.

There you have it folks, the reason why training the military so they can support the police is just so darn wrong.

Depends on what those wacky civilians are doing. Maybe I will, maybe I won't.

Using the military to support the police can be a perfectly reasonable thing to do. The British Army was supporting the RUC in Northern Ireland for years. Their main effort was obviously stopping the IRA terrorists but they also assisted with public order and making arrests. We have even helped to train the Americans in riot control.
