There was a compilation a few weeks ago linked by Fark.com to the 10 most over rated albums, (yes Pink Floyd was there too, and U2). But what I was thinking of was some songs that just make me turn off the radio.
Sheryl Crow-Sweet Child of Mine, actually makes me crave Guns and Roses
Pearl Jam-Last Dance, the original from the 50's wasn't good then and it sure got worse with age.
Yellow Taxi by anybody. Counting Crows did not gain a fan here.
Anybody who has remixed a Bryan Adams or Sarah McLauglin (?) song into a trippy dance beat.
50 cent. PERIOD. One more bullet would have broken his shooter? C'mon marble mouth.
Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, 98 degrees or most other produced girl/boy bands.
Anybody who has appeared on Canadian/American Idol as a contestant or host. (Sass Jordan is exempt from this).
I'm sure I'm missing a few others of worth in this. Like movies, music talent is in decline and I think that it's just been passed over so many times because some suit in stylish black has thought it didn't have the right look.
If this should have been in the Rants forum, I apologize and hope a MOD can adjust this.
RMR
"Sometimes When We Touch" by Dan Hill. Nauseating.
Anything made in the last 5 years (The Tragically Hip exempt)
Richard Harris - MacArthur Park
"Someone left the cake out in the rain.
And I don't know if I can take it,
Cuz it took so long to bake it,
And I'll never have that recipe again."
At risk of being labelled un-Canadian, I haven't been able to listen to the Hip since they left the bar circut. One word, 'Poets'.
Lenny Kravitz's "Fly Away".... he's got some good stuff, and this song is pretty decent, but anyone who thinks he can get away with those bubblegum lyrics has their head too far up their leatherclad ass.
I wish that I could fly
Into the sky
So very high
Just like a dragonfly
Wow Lenny, you rhymed 'fly' with 'sky'.... way to set that bar high.
Songs that make me want to slit my wrists:
The Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood
Marcy Playground - Sex and Candy
Anything by Theory of a Deadman
Anything by Celine Dion
Anything by Britney Spears and the rest of her ilk.
I do include Joni with the rest of the Big Yellow Taxi ilk. Mostly I blame her as the instigator. I'm not a fan.
My dislike of the Hip is not carried on Poets alone, don't worry.
Dislike is maybe too strong though. Abivalent? I'd leave them more than I'd take them? Not a fan, I'll leave it at that.
Two more (I had to look the names of these up):
Amerie - 1 thing
I think this song is a test to see if little kids will listen to nicely packaged shit. This song is just a bunch of noises, and I'm angered by even hearing it.
Jennifer Lopez - Get Right
That god-damned saxophone clip drills into my head like a tractor trailer backing up. Seriously, who decided this was decent for popular music?
Why, the same people who gave us Britney Spears, the Backstreet Queers, and Ashlee Simpson.
I imagine their hell will be one where tye are forced to listen to real music for all eternity. Music like Pink Floyd, the Beatles, U2, and such and such.
